Default Renting with a Pitbull

So I'm looking to move out to LA at the end of May. Everyone says that it is easier to get a job in LA if you are already there, so I'm taking the last two of my classes for my MFA online instead of on campus. My student loans will cover me for four months while I'm job hunting.

My problem is that I'm having trouble finding a place to move to. I have two dogs. A 23 lb whippet mix (9 yrs old) and a 45 lb pit mix (1 yr old). So far, I've found two places downtown that will allow them. SB Grand doesn't have any restrictions, and Santee Court just allows any dog 45 lbs and under. There is a place in Glendale that doesn't have any breed restrictions either.

As I don't have a job yet, I'm not sold on one area of town. The jobs in my field are split in location. It is either the Glendale/Burbank area or Santa Monica/Venice. I just want to live a neighborhood where I'm not worried about getting mugged on the way from my car at night. And as I will start paying back student loans 6 months after I'm done with school, my budget isn't that awesome: $1350 max including parking. I've been looking on CL, and most places specify small dogs or have breed restrictions.

Does anyone have any ideas?

If you are working in Burbank, you'll be able to find a decent place in North Hollywood.

Hint: If the dog is a mix, don't mention the Pit part.
