Hi, I will be moving to LA the 3rd week of May. My work is in Torrance area, but I would like to live in Long Beach area. My preference location is either front of beach or downtown area and my budget for renting a studio is between 800 to 1100 per month. Any suggestion ?

Stay closer than the 3rd Street/Broadway if you are going to be close to downtown area but I suggest you live somewhere South/East of Rodendo Ave. towards Belmont Shores.

Best areas are closer to Belmont Shores/Heights or Circle area. In your price range you should be able to find even a 1-bdr apartment. My advice to you would be to find a place that comes with a private parking garage or at least a parking space. Some of the individual apartment buildings have a tuck-under gated garage so I'd keep an eye on that when driving around.
Finding a place with a private garage under $1000 would not be too easy but they are out there. Check out Craig's List and ask about the garage/parking situation when you call. Believe me, especially when you live closer to the beach, parking space becomes even more vital. I'd avoid places with street parking since that would also be not very secure.

Good luck!

Definitely find a place with a garage or parking spot. Parking by the beach is literally impossible on some days. Also stay below 4th St, the closer to the beach the better. Mid-Shore area is probably the cheapest bet while still being able to walk to the beach.

Smile finding apt in LBC

check out the Grunion Gazette, a local beach paper (can review on line too) for rentals available, otherwise use Craigslist. For the range you have indicated you can easily find a studio or 1 bdrm. Living in Long Beach, you will have a relatively easy commute and can even use streets when the frwys are a mess. Best of Luck!

You should be able to get a one-bedroom in Belmont Shores for that price. My old apartment at 2nd and Glendora was $1050/month for a very large one bedroom with a garage. However, the garage was extremely small and you could only fit a small car (like a 2-door Civic) in there. Street parking can be a hassle, but not too bad. Crime is a bigger issue - my car was broken into twice in three years.

Take a few hours and drive around to look for signs. My old landlord never posted online - he just slapped a sign out front and within a few days, it was rented.
