I am relocating from Philadelphia, and want to live in a SAFE and economical area. Is Bixby Knolls Apartments at 4540 Orange Ave, Long Beach safe? If not, any suggestions for 2 bedroom apartments for under $1500 in and around Long Beach. Thanks!

I don't know the Bixby Knolls area that well. But if you're considering anywhere in LB, Naples, the Peninsula, and Belmont Shore are great. (Though it will be tough to find a 2 bedroom place at that budget). Just go to
Gazette Newspapers -- Long Beach, CA and check out the classifieds. If you're looking for a more urban pace, downtown has lots of new development to consider.

Yes - a fairly good area - some expensive homes and nice apartments and not too far from the beach - fairly expensive. Bixby Knolls is quite nice but is surrounded on 3 sides by areas that have crime problems...there are always more crime problems in and around apartment complexes than in the single family home neighborhoods.

I live in Belmont Heights and it's great!!!! Lot's of places to walk to (coffee shops, cafes, quaint shopping). I'm 4 blocks to the water and pier, 2nd Street. People are friendly, they always say "hi, how are you", etc., they bicycle alot, jog and you meet a lot of people walking their dogs. Take a look at Belmont Heights

Bixby Knolls has always been fairly quiet and residential. You should be fairly safe in that area.

I live in Bixby Area, next to Bixby Knolls...it's a quiet area. Orange is a busy street though if you are trying to get out of the driveway! Any streets around Atlantic to Cherry and Wardlow to Carson St. are fairly decent and quiet. Just drive by during busy hours and at nights during the weekends to get a feel of the area.
