I agree with everyone - take the layover in TX and fly to Palm Springs direct. Did you consider flying into Ontario?

Stormy, it looks like you got the picture! Fly to PS after the Dallas layover. You'll still have your sanity by the time you arrive even if it is 7:00 p.m..

Yup...it sounds unanimous....even starting early in the afternoon driving from LAX would still be a problem.....it looks like I will have to bypass your fair city on this trip! Thanx!

Thanx....it looks like I'll be enjoying a $7 slice of pizza and $9 beer for lunch at DFW airport then! Can't wait!

Hi Paula - ....it looks like I'll be enjoying the fine cuisine at DFW airport for lunch! I had checked on Ontario, and everything still has a long (longer) layover. There is one flight with a layover of just one hour, but it puts me on the ground at Ontario at 6 PM. How long would the drive from Ontario to PSP require at that time of day on a Friday? I imagine it is still pretty busy, and I might get in even later than the 7 PM arrival on the flight to PSP. The only flight arriving early (3:30) has an even longer layover at DFW. Any thoughts?

Just so you get a picture of how bad the traffic is going east on Friday, today at 12:45 PM it took me 25 minutes to drive less than 8 miles from La Canada to Pasadena. At 3 PM on my way back, the east side of the 210 freeway was at a complete halt all the way from the Arroyo Blvd. exit, and it stays that way up to the 605 (about 15 miles). If I did the same 8 mile drive right now, it would take me an hour.

Ouch....I feel your pain. My drive home (Miami) is 12 miles, and on Friday afternoons that's an hour-plus of Hummers and people taking every shoulder and patch of dirt to cheat ahead for few car lengths. I'm convinced. Option #2 is not an option....especially if things get so bad so early in the day. Where is everybody going??? Is it all traffic to Las Vegas? Does PSP fill up every weekend too?

I can fly almost anywhere from the Dallas airport to SoCal faster than a SoCal resident can get there in traffic. Go through DFW and stop in at one of the wine bars or Admiral's Club.

everyone just finished school, so yes, tons of people going to vegas, havasu, and other weekend getaway spots. i expect friday traffic to be this bad for the rest of the summer.
