"And they're out there having fun, in that warm California sun."

California Sun, by the Rivieras-recorded in 1964.

BABYLON SISTERS by Steely Dan

"Drive west on Sunset to the sea,
Turn that jungle music down,
Just until we are out of town,
It's a real occasion,
Close your eyes and you'll be there,
It's everything they say,
The end of a perfect day,
Distant lights from across the bay.

Here come those Santa Ana winds again..."

'The Action' by Little Village (Ry Cooder, John Hiatt, Nick Lowe, Jim Keltner).

Now, there's a jumpin' little place I go
Called the Action.
It's just about a mile or so
Down the street.

And there's a party goin' on in there
Down a lot of funky stairs
And everything will be rare
'Till the break of dawn.

Now you don't want to walk on down
To the action
'Cause once you get in there
You're gonna want to use your feet.

And when the music starts a gettin' hot
They're gonna burn up everything you got
And you ain't gonna want to stop
'Till the break of dawn.

They're doin' the pony
Watch 'em do the jerk
Then they get down on the floor
And they go to work
Sister's doin' the alligator
Up on the table top
Lot of Farfisa racket
Don't never stop.

We're goin' to Santa Ana
Way down in Eagle Rock
Way out in Montebello
And down in Huntington Park.

Out in El Sereno
Better show 'em what you got
Out on Whittier Boulevard
The action never stops.

Down at the action
Meet you down at the action
Don't want to end up in traction
Meet you down at the action

More lyrics: Little Village Lyrics

Thanks. I saw them at the Pantages. I remember John Hiatt introducing Cooder as 'the best guitar player in Santa Monica.'

"Sin City" is ONE of the most underrated songs about Los Angeles by LA's cosmic cowboys The Flying Burrito Brothers from 1969.

No this is NOT a song about Vegas....this is more directed at LA (note the earthquake reference). That said, I think it could be about any town with its universal themes of sin and innocence.

So. Calif. seems to have a proclivity for stealing talented Florida musicians and having them cultivate their creative seeds once they get here: Gram Parson, Tom Petty, and Jim Morrison (albeit Morrison was a Navy brat who moved around a lot).

Gram loved the desert and died there. Chris Hillman and his beautiful voice, still performing to this day.
