I don't remember what the exact figures are - they are out there though, so if you google, you may find them! But I can say that I'm always shocked when I hear about people under 25 in other states who are getting married. I honestly don't know a single person who got married that young - everyone I know waited until they were at least 27 or 28 to even think about marriage.

Okay, I Googled it and found a map at Many Eyes: Map of age at first marriage in US - the state with the youngest first time brides with an average age of 21.9, is Utah, and the states with the oldest first time brides at about 27 are New York and Massachusetts. California comes in at an average age of 25.2 for the first time brides, and 27.2 for the first time grooms.

In Michigan tons of people get engaged snr year of college, and then married right after they graduate from undergrad school. So I know a ton of people who get married at like age 21/22/23. But here in L.A. it doesn't seem to be that way . . .

Yeah, no way. I can't even imagine getting married so young! It's pretty rare here.

[Thanks for that] Yeah, but that's taken way back from 2000/2003; do you think that the average age of first marriage has been pushed back sense then??

I thought it was from 2007? But no I don't think the numbers have changed much since 2003. You're talking about a cultural norm for this area, and seven years isn't all that long ago. Because of the economy some couples have pushed back their weddings, so you might see a slight tick up, if you were to look at the figures from the last two years - but that's a temporary thing most likely.

idonno, it's weird, it says that bOth in Michigan and in California the avare ages are 27M/25F, but I highly doubt that Michigan has the same avareage in reality as L.A.

Furthermore, "California" is not "L.A." - the L.A. average may be wayyy different than the average for California as a whole.

True, but I would say that what you're seeing in LA is also the case in the rest of Southern California - San Diego and Orange County and even the Inland Empire are not that different. Maybe the average age is younger in the Northern part of the state - I don't know - I just know Southern California!
