Default fairfax district safety?

I might be moving to a new place in that neighborhood---near fairfax high school and a bit north of pan pacific park. (there are a few locations in that general area that I'm considering.)

according to some websites and statistics, the area has bad crime? when I went to visit and it seemed like a really nice neighborhood--- homes were well-maintained and there were kids in the street. the only hint of any crime was that some homes had bars on the first floor windows.

is the area different at night? Are appearances deceiving?

anything on the safety of that area would be helpful.

thanks!

I've never considered the Fairfax district as unsafe but my contact is limited to the Farmer's Market & CBS studio. It seems safe when I've been there.

agreed. however, this is a big city where crime exists, so always be mindful of that.

Exactly. Fairfax district seems so middle-class w/ lots of families. Park La Brea & Pan Pacific Park seem very safe. You see a lot of people on the streets at night especially on the weekend or sabbath for Jewish people.

i never really noticed the families. i worked in the area for a short time though and wilshire/fairfax is a major intersection in the city, you'll see people of all walks of life around all up and down fairfax from olympic to sunset. i always found the area nicer than most neighborhoods in LA (lots of classic spanish style duplexes and 4-plexes), but it's not far from lower income neighborhoods either and many buses run up and down those streets. mmmmmmmm, thinking about fairfax reminds of the great food in the area too. the farmer's market has some outstanding places and there are a ton of restaurants along both 3rd and beverly as well as fairfax.

thanks, you guys are basically confirming what I thought. My guess is that the statistics probably just cover a wide area and all you need is some common sense to stay away from crime.

Its a pretty safe area. Im thinking that the reason for the high crime statistics is due to drugs in the area. Fairfax High School has more of a drug problem than any other high school in LAUSD - this includes the schools in south central LA, the Valley and East LA.

I think you'll be happy moving into that area, but just be aware there is a LOT of drugs around, but not much gang activity or murders.

Very safe area. When you get north of it into West Hollywood along Santa Monica blvd then it starts to get a bit sketchy at night; maybe that is what is skewing the statistics.
Be aware though, in Los Angeles property crime is everywhere, no place is immune.

I have been living in this area for almost 5 years now and would consider it quite safe.

No place is immune to crime, but I would recommend anybody to live in this area.
