Question Lake Charles: How much is it still damaged by Katrina?

Doing this for a friend who was offered a job at a hospital in Lake Charles. He wants to know how badly damaged Lakes Charles was by the hurricane Katrina. Is the area cleaned up yet or is it still suffering in any way still?
Thanks!

Katrina did not damage Lake Charles in any way.
Rita did damage many homes and appartment complexes.
Many people left when Rita came and have not returned.
Your friend should still look into coming to Lake Charles.

Default Sorry, I meant Rita, the hurricane...

Is the area hurting at all still from it?
How badly was the town torn up? Looked bad on the news.
Are they short of teachers or oilfield workers or what?

My family and I currently reside just north of Lake Charles. The place is booming. Shortage on all types of workers, seriously. Last I heard Burger King was offering a $2000 sign on bonus to flip burgers @ $10per hour if that tells you anything. I am unsure of teachers, but my father and I work in the oil field/marine industry and it is booming like never before.

I'll third that. I'm from the LC area. It's a great place to live and alot of work right now. My husband is a contractor and he just can't keep up. The city looks really good. You may drive by a few older buildings that fell down and didn't get cleaned up but it's not all over. I would say 9 1/2 of 10 things are back to normal except I believe the wages have gone up.

You ARE exaggerating, aren't you? Man if that's true they're gonna have a zillion people wanting it their way! In fact, I might take them up on it...!

I don't think they're doing it anymore but for a while they sure were.
