Moss Bluff, just north of Lake Charles is the fastest growing community in Southwest Louisiana. Nice and quiet and family oriented. SunshineSally

We are thinking of moving away from Lake Charles after 30 years . Everywhere you go there is trash on the side of the road (even in the more affluent areas). Most recently it was listed as 17th in crime in the U.S. Yes there are smaller communities but they are on the west side of the bridge (old but will be replaced in the next several years if the city and state fathers can agree as to its height) or north of Lake Charles (Moss Bluff) and getting there during peak hours is very frustrating. Traveling east you encounter more trash along the highways.
The best thing is that the traffic in most areas of Lake Charles is not so bad. All the stores are easily accessible and so are most of the health care facilities.
Anyone know of any nice quiet clean communities in Louisiana to spend my next 20 years?

Moss Bluff does seem nice if you HAVE to be near Lake Charles.

Does anyone know about upcoming house rentals that DO allow pets?
Good morning, I will be relocating to the area in JUL/AUG time frame. I will be coming down with two dogs under 25 lbs that have been through obediance training. I currently own my home and until I can sell I will need to rent, but am having a hard time finding ANYTHING that is affordable and allows pets. If anyone has any guidance it sure would be greatly appreciated!!! Thank you!

I'm in Lebleu Settlement (between Iowa and Lake Charles, north Interstate 10). It's a great place to live. Good neighbors, quiet, relaxing, and not too far from town.

I HAVE LIVED IN LAKE CHARLES ALL MY LIFE. IT DEPENDS ON YOUR AGE AND WHAT TYPE OF CULTURE YOU'RE INTO. IF YOU ARE BETWEEN THE AGE OF 14 TO 25, MAYBE 28, THEN YOU PROBABLY WOULDN'T LIKE IT HERE. MOST STUDENTS LEAVE HERE AFTER GRADUATION SIMPLY BECAUSE OF THE "NIGHT LIFE." THEY SAY IT'S NOT MUCH TO DO. JOBS ARE SOME WHAT SCARCE IF YOU ARE NOT IN THE MEDICAL FIELD, PLANT INDUSTRY, SUCH AS OIL, WELDING, ENGINEER, ETC. OR INTO LAW. IT MAY NOT BOTHER SOMEONE WHO IS IN THEIR MID 20s THAT'S MARRIED AND STARTING A FAMILY WHO ENJOYS SIMPLE THINGS.
I BELIEVE THERE SHOULD BE MORE FOR TEENAGERS TO DO BESIDES HANG OUT AT THE MALL, WAL-MART AND THE MOVIES. SOME MAY GO TO THE BOWLING ALLEY OR SKATING RINK. THAT MAY NOT BE ENOUGH FOR SOME KIDS, BUT IT IS CONSIDERED A SMALL TOWN SO THERE REALLY ISN'T MUCH TO DO. A LOT OF OLDER PEOPLE MAY GO TO CLUBS, BUT EVEN THAT GETS OLD.
A LOT OF PEOPLE HERE LOVE THE NATURE BACKGROUND OF THIS AREA. THEY LOVE TO DRIVE MILES TO HUNT AND FISH. SOME LIKE TO GET OUT ON THE WATER IN THEIR BOATS, BIG OR SMALL. LOL. IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR THAT URBAN NIGHT LIFE WITH HIGH END BOUTIQUES AND SHOPS OR MAYBE FIVE STAR CUISINE, THIS ISN'T THE PLACE. BUT IF YOU WANT GREAT SOUTHERN FOOD AND A PLAIN AND SIMPLE LIFE. GOOD CHOICE. THIS IS A GOOD PLACE FOR RAISING SMALL CHILDREN AND TO RETIRE. IF YOU WANT TO MAKE A LOT OF MONEY IN THE OIL, WELDING, AND OTHER INDUSTRIES LIKE THAT, SUCH AS MAJOR PLANTS, ALSO A GOOD PIC.
AS FAR AS NEIGHBORHOODS ARE CONCERNED, NO PART OF THE WORLD IS EXEMPT FROM CRIME. NORTH LAKE CHARLES HAS THE MOST, BUT COMPARED TO LOTS AND LOTS OF OTHER CITIES, LAKE CHARLES IS LIKE DISNEY WORLD.
I WOULD RECOMMEND SOUTH OF I-210. BUT YOU'D BE SURPRISED TO FIND LITTLE TUCKED AWAY AREAS THROUGHOUT THE CITY THAT HAS VERY GOOD NEIGHBORHOODS WITH A NICE YARD AND NICE SIZE HOME, WITH QUALITY ALL-AROUND.
THIS CITY ISN'T BIG IN THE FIRST PLACE TO BE CONCERNED WITH COMMUTE TIME. IF YOU HOP THE INTERSTATE YOU CAN MAKE IT FROM ONE END OF TOWN TO ANOTHER IN AS LITTLE AS 10 MINS. THE NELSON RD AREA HAS THE WORST TRAFFIC. THAT'S BECAUSE IT IS BOOMING VERY VERY FAST. I REMEMBER AS A CHILD 7 OR 8, THAT WAS NOTHING BUT WOODS. NOT EVEN A WAL-MART, UNTIL YEARS LATER. SO THAT'S WHY PEOPLE LIKE THAT AREA BECAUSE IT SO NEW AND LOTS OF ROOM TO BUILD AND BUILD AND BUILD. SO PEOPLE ARE MIGRATING TO THE AREA.
OAKPARK WHICH IS IN CENTRAL LAKE CHARLES WOULD BE BEST AS FAR AS LOCATION, COMMUTE, CHILDREN, AND NICE HOMES WITH PRICES TO MATCH.
