Interested in Relocating from Detroit, MI to Louisiana. I work in the Real Estate market
Hello, I am a single parent in Detroit, MI. In Detroit, MI the economy is very bad. I am interested in information regarding housing, schooling and employment in Louisiana. I work in the Real Estate market as an Underwriter. I would appreciate any information any one can relay to me regarding their thoughts and/or concerns. Your help in this matter is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Where in Louisiana would you be interested in moving to? Any particular reason why you picked Louisiana? The economy isn't exactly "booming" in Louisiana.

I was initially looking at Metairie but then when reading the forum I am not sure. I would like a decent area where my son will be able to graduate High School. The reason I picked Louisiana is because of the recent tragedy that occurred August 2005. I thought the real estate market should be picking up after the 2 yr anniversary. I appreciate your help. Any futher advice/concern is greatly appreciated. Thank you again.

Shreveport-Bossier, Lake Charles, Alexandria, Lafayette, Baton Rouge, Houma-Thibodaux, and the north shore of Lake Pontchartrain all have good economies overall. The north shore is especially booming since Katrina. Schools, in general, in Louisiana are not terrible. Many are in bad shape but there are a number of very good schools. Avoid East Baton Rouge and Orleans public schools.

You would be MUCH better off in several other states - not to mention your son would be too when it comes to his education. Please for your own good, look into areas with healthy economies and good schools - like Raleigh, NC or Greenville, SC. Good luck.
