Nothing could be further from the truth, Catherine. I moved to Louisiana from Washington, D.C. 27 years ago and have more friends here than I could shake a stick at. Wherever you plan to hang your hat, I think you'll find your Louisiana neighbors friendly and helpful.
As for your earlier post asking about towns to live in that would be within 45 minutes of your work, St. Francisville and New Roads are probably the two with the most potential. You'd probably be better advised to stay on this side of the river, though, until the bridge is finished. Do a Google search on "realtors in St. Francisville" browse over the results and contact a professional. These folks are very helpful, and could advise you best about the move. How soon would you be coming?

There's no getting away from the heat and humidity. The tradeoff is mild winters.

That's the lake community as soon as I read it...Lake Rosemond

Anywhere North of Baton Rouge should be okay. It's all pretty quiet, not a lot of violent crime. You would do well to rent someplace in St. Francisville until the bridge is finished, after that, I would suggest making the move across the river to New Roads. New Roads has about 5,000 people compared to St. Francisville's approximately 1,500 people, so there are alot more stores and things. The public schools there are nothing special but the private sector is a very good option, since it is actually relatively affordable there compared to here in Baton Rouge.

Cross Creek Stables.
As for the comment about not being welcome ... don't worry about that. I grew up in Indiana, but never had a problem when I moved south other than a little teasing about my "accent", LOL!
St. Francisville is a beautiful area! If you make the move that's the first place I'd look to rent. We have a friend who lives just a touch south of SF in Jackson. Before he moved there he lived in a nice townhouse on Hwy. 10 in SF, just down the road from Rosemond Plantation.

I wouldn't think twice about St. Francisville. if for any reason I had to move there, I'd have no worries.

Catherine777: I live in Natchez, Mississippi, about 50 miles north of St. Francisville... U.S. hwy. 61 (scenic 4 lane) runs through Natchez, south to St. Francisville, and into Baton Rouge (85 miles); My city is a beautiful town (kind of like a little Charleston, S.C. or Savanah, GA.) with beautiful architecture, and beautiful scenery. Although I would love to encourage you to look into living here, the commute (little to no traffic) might get old after a while--- but the roads are good. If looking @ St. Francisville, look around the Bluffs Country Club or in the Zachary, LA. area--- but at least come up to Natchez (rhymes with matches) sometime and check us out... We have a beautiful downtown, historic antebellum homes, located on the Mississippi River. Visit our visitor center near the MS River bridge to get a feel for the place....... Eat lunch at the Carriage house @ Stanton Hall, Try a piece of fudge from Darbys on Main Street for dessert. If I can be of any further help, please let me know......... We have many who have moved here from all over, so don't worry about trying to fit in because you are from the "north"; It will be culture shock for you I imagine, but the people are friendly in general........ Probably will be much slower pace than what you are accustomed to... If you don't mind traffic jams, and a faster pace, Baton Rouge would probably be more to your liking..........
