Default Concerned Mom

Could anybody let me know about Slidell ? it better or worse than St Tammany Parish? We own waterfront property in Oak Harbor and before Katrina we were planning to build a house there. But I hear that things have changed since Katrina and that all kind of weird people from the city are moving to Slidell now. Is it still a safe place to live or would we better off on the other side of the lake? Could anybody comment on both schools systems, which one is better and what is the difference. We have to children in middle school and cannot afford to pay for private schools. We live in Kansas now but my husband would like to live in Louisiana to be closer to his folks who live in Metaire. I got more questions but I try to get these ones answered first. Thanks

Do not bring children here. The education system is bad statewide. However, Mandeville schools are the best in the State. I would select Mandeville before Slidell.

The quality of education in LA depends on the school system. Funding and resources plays a huge role in the success of a school system.

Is Baton Rouge close enough? There are some developments with several public systems in that area that are really positive.
Zachary, St. Francisville are very highly rated.

It's a little over an hour away from Slidell. In good traffic, that is. And since I-12 (the accident capital of the world) connects BR and Slidell, that (good traffic) is WAY from guaranteed.
