Moving to Vermilion Parish (Abbeville, Kaplan: unemployment, live, nicest)

Hello everybody,
I am an exchange student, and I will stay in Kaplan.I would like to know about the community there.Also, I am 16 Male so are there any avalible activities to do as a 16 years old person.

Interesting that of all places in Louisiana you are going there. Where are you coming from, if I may ask?

Kaplan is a small town, kind of in the middle of nowhere, of about 5000. It is predominantly white, unemployment is high. The closest larger town is Abbeville. I do not live there, only know the place by reputation. You will be smack dab in the middle of cajun country and will meet some of the nicest, friendliest people in the world. Can't you write your host family and ask them for info about things to do there?
