My husband is thinking of applying for a job at Lockheed there. I can't find anything on it. Does it even have a high school? Thanks

Michoud is in eastern New Orleans, and you will probably want to live in some other area that is further along in recovering from Katrina.

My "significant other" works at Lockheed Martin out at Michoud, and we live in Metairie which is a suburb to the west of New Orleans and very nice. He works swing shift and it takes him 1/2 hour or less to commute. Others that work with him live all around New Orleans and various suburbs, but right now I can't think of any that live near Michoud.

Michoud isn't a city. It is an area located in New Orleans. There is a NASA manufacturing and research facility located there. It produced the rockets for many of the space programs, and the fuel tank for the Space Shuttle program. There was some worry about what would happen at the Michoud facility after the space shuttle program ends, but a part of the next generation of space vessels will be produced there. Boeing has already opened an office in the New Orleans area for this reason. The Michoud facility was largely untouched by Katrina flooding thanks to the bravery of a crew which continued operating pumps through the heart of the storm.

Just over the border is Mississippi is NASA's Stennis center where they test-fire the rockets.

I know they used to do that when Frank worked there back in the 1980's, because he has told me stories about it. For some reason, I thought they stopped doing that out at Stennis several years back. If I think of it, I'll ask him.

The Michoud facility is named after the plantation owner that owned the land at one time.

Anyway.... if you want to know more of this type of info, it's easily available by typing "Michoud" into Google. Here's a link that I found that way, that will tell you the history of Lockheed Martin at Michoud, and other information about what they do:

Michoud Operations (broken link)

Things that I didn't get from Google are... that the facility at Michoud is very large, with a lot of buildings, and the immediate area is mostly businesses; then there are residential areas a little further away. But again, as far as I know from what Frank and his co-workers say, not many live in nearby residential areas. I would suggest looking throughout the New Orleans area. Finding a good school is a problem, so I hear; so that might determine where you want to live. Good luck to you.
