Baton Rouge has an undeserved reputation as being the center of Cancer Alley. When the numbers were studied, it was found that the BR area didn't have a higher cancer rate. It was determined that it had a higher death rate from cancer only because the cancer patients weren't seeking medical treatment until it was too late.

Baton Rouge has way more to offer than nothing but country Shreveport. My girlfriend lives in Shreveport and is from B.R. so i go up there frequently. Baton Rouge may have petrochemical plants, but i have lived here all my life and never heard of anyone dying from the pollution. All the plants do is bring wealth and make the city grow abundantly. Also if i point out...Baton Rouge is close to the gulf of mexico so the gulf breeze pushes the pollution out of the area of the city. The Baton Rouge area is also about 3 times the size of Shreveport and extremely nicer than Shreveport with plenty to do. People I know who come to visit, love Baton Rouge.

^^ Sounds like someone needs to make up his own facts to somehow prove Baton Rouge is better than Shreveport. I can't truly say either way. Both are very nice places, and while I will give Baton Rouge the upper hand as far as sports entertainment goes (AHEM!! LSU) Shreveport-Bossier has a nice nightlife scene for a city its size, as well as great casinos and plenty for families to do.
That said however, if you truly want to try your hand at a city vs. city debate with me, go for it. And being the great guy that I am (yeah, I really am great) I'll take this opportunity to start the debate
The metro Baton Rouge population is somewhere in the neighborhood of 700,000-800,000 people and Shreveport-Bossier's metro population is somewhere in the neighborhood of 400,000 people. That puts Baton Rouge metro at twice the population of Shreveport-Bossier, not three times the population. While Baton Rouge CITY (before Katrina) had only 20,000-25,000 people more than Shreveport. And if you happened to mean in land area, I really wouldn't be bragging. You would still be incorrect, though. While Baton Rouge is more sprawling than Shreveport (not even twice as large, let alone three times as large) urban sprawl is not an area where one should be bragging. Many cities look to Baton Rouge as an example of what NOT to do in regard to traffic and urban sprawl. Shreveport was planned much more efficiently than Baton Rouge, and our land area size and freeway system are proof of that.
Baton Rouge didn't "grow abundantly" ( ) from the petrochemical industry, it grew larger almost immediately because of Katrina. The Baton Rouge area has continued to add residents over the years; but the city itself, much like Shreveport, was steadily losing population before Katrina.
Shreveport also has a much more dense urban core than Baton Rouge, and a much more advanced freeway system. Also, in a few years Shreveport-Bossier will be home to the United States Air Force Cyber Command. Metro Shreveport-Bossier beat out many other areas, including California, San Antonio, and Omaha, for this project... a feat I highly doubt many Louisiana cities - including Baton Rouge - could have done had they been home to an Air Force Base.
Nice try, but you're going to have to try harder than that. By the way... your juvenile, laughable personal attack about being toothless... nice try.
Oh... your turn. Try actually debating this time rather than resorting to personal attacks which lack both wit and character on your part.

Like I have said before, I have never been to Shreveport, but love Baton Rouge. I have heard from people that the population here gained 50,000 after Katrina, but I just wish they were a little friendlier like the BR people are(or were). I think tht there is a lot of things to do here and I do enjoy the winter weather in Baton Rouge. People are great here( not the evacuees though in my opinion) and the foos cannot be beat.

To use a sports analogy-Shreveport Bossier is just one or two players away to becoming a major major city- Maybe the Cyber was one of those players- Baton Rouge is the capital and represents and gets the best from all parts of La.

Although this isn't answering any of the questions the guy originally posted, this has definitely turned into an interesting discussion. Although this is a small "city" , they do have a vast array of activities, especially if you like to have a drink! From Dancing, Comedy Clubs, Jazz Spots, Casinos, A nice science museum, Gentleman's clubs, you can find something to do just about every night here. As a matter of fact, my best friend was going through a break up and we pledged to take her out every night for a week straight to cheer her up. By the time next Sunday rolled around we had had so much fund going to clubs, dinner, shooping, casinos, etc. She forgot all about that jerk and even found a really good friend in the process...

Some people just like to talk smack... you know that. Though I agree with you and I also will back up Shreveport most of the time, it's apparent that some people just like to talk trash without about a city without having really experienced the city. Just like New Orleans... I love that place. It has its problems, and it always has, but people just love to run that beautiful, historic city into the ground... and for what?
