As to SBCMetroguy --Moderator cut: personal insults I have been to no less than 25 cities allover the world and guess what, Shreveport still ranks as #25. Did I ever leave the ghetto ?? NO because the entire city is ONE BIG ghetto. Except for 3 square blocks behind Mall St. Vincent and the sprawl of retail down on Youree. Is this what you call nice ? Oh yeah, and the miltary strip centers, those were something to behold. OOOOH< and best of all was Larry Flynt's Hustler Club. Maybe "metro guy" should get out more...??? I won'd need your help in the future. As you will note from the afore-mentioned post, I was looking for help on BATON ROUGE.
I'm sorry you saw the "bad" parts of Shreveport. The area around St vincent mall is by far the best. It's become very run down. Did you take a drive out to Cross Lake area? I love Shreveport, and Greenwood will always be home to me.

Did you go to the new Mall on the Red River on the Bossier City side? It's fabulous! They call it the Boardwalk I think.

With exception to the great food and some pretty descent people I could take or leave the entire state. Between the healthcare system, school system, crooked and inept politicians, roads, insurance premiums and being poorest state in the nation it's no wonder why there are more people leaving the state than are comming in (not including illegal immigrants). I've spent much of my life here in Baton Rouge and would be much happier living somewhere that didn't have an Air quality index. Don't you love those days where the ozone is so high that it's hard to breathe outside? Just look at how many people here smoke. You would think that half the population of BR were Firemen. How about the traffic? We can't even get the traffic lights sequenced properly but our state representatives are hoarding cash in there freezers at home. Yeah we got it good.

I like the way you worded your post... "I could take or leave the entire state." Rather than worrying which city is better than another, why not focus on the problems with the state in general. THAT is the place to start... get our state government, as well as our social ills, in check before we start worrying which city is going to be the greatest thing since sliced bread.

I honestly love all of Louisiana's largest cities individually, and for different reasons. Yet at the same time I HATE all of Louisiana's largest cities for other reasons... and that includes Shreveport. As a state we have to get our COLLECTIVE problems worked out first.

And as much as I love the state I've called home for most of my life, I openly admit that we have a lot of problems to work on.

That is a sad to say about Louisiana. SBC, I remember in school when Louisiana pound for pound had mpre natural resources thant any other state. I guess the politician have screwed everything up. I hope Jindl is a pro business govenor

Yesterday, I met an East indian here in San Antonio who had just move from Shreveport. He told me the one thing that he notice about Austin and San Antonio is the quality of the new homes are built better in Shreveport. I agree with him.

For as crime does Shreveport have different police precient in different parts of town so they can patrol the area. One way here in San Antonio is having police sits in high crime areas- via Allendale/Cedar Grove)

Better Pack a lunch or wake up at 4:00 AM to make it to work from the Suburbs!
I hate Baton Rouge!
Can't wait to find a better town and State.

I cannot understand why you hate Baton Rouge! If you live in outlying parishes, to be honest, then you are the reasons BR is so crowded! On a weekend or around 7pm, this place is almost a ghost town. That is because the other people from other parishes are not here to make it busy. I love Baton Rouge. Any city you live in is going to be busy though. I heard Atlanta is horrible. I hope your move goes ok, good luck!

I think every state is the same when it comes to a lot of your complaints. Just that our politicians just get caught. Pollution, we are not that bad especially since my husband and I got on the EPA website and there are many many more cities that are 100 times worse. AS far as the poorest in the nation, that is true, but Baton Rouge has plenty of affulent areas! AS far as traffic, I came froma town in Florida where the traffic was like post Katrina, only it was that bad 24/7 and I think the traffic here is fine. Only 7am and around 4-6 pm are bad--duh, any place has bad traffic then! Look around the weekends, traffic is nothing because the other parish people are not here to make it bad! Also, try going to Florida talk about insurance! I hope you fins happiness though-sounds like you are pretty sad!

I repeat, Louisiana is the poorest state in the nation. Sure there are some affluent areas but that does little good for the condition of the roads or the school system. Due to our failing school system how bright do you think our future leaders here will be? Without bright minds in our government how do you think we will be able to overcome our economic woes? I'm sure there are things such as traffic of pollution COULD be worse but that doesn't make the state of things here any less troubling. When I spoke of insurance rates should have said automobile insurance. But of course that has nothing to do with how badly people around here drive. I can Imagine how high insurance rates in Florida must be after all the hurricanes they have been hit by.

We have one extremely bright mind in state government right now, and he will be our next Governor soon enough... Mr. Bobby Jindal. I'm not naive enough to believe that he is going to fix everything, but I believe if any current Louisiana politician can at least make some major strides toward fixing many of the problems currently facing the state, that politician is Bobby Jindal.
