Best place to live: Objective
Nightlife: New Orleans with Memphis behind
Shopping: Dallas
Architecture: New Orleans
Charm: New Orleans
Economy: DFW

Bad choice of cities seeing as most of them aren't a fair comparison.

4 suburban wastelands and New Orleans?
I think the choice is clear.

Easy. Dallas has the economy and the shopping. New Orleans has the charm, nightlife, and architecture. A case can possibly be made for N.O. shopping in the "local brand/mom & pop" category, but for big "name brand" shopping it goes to Dallas.

Dallas has way too many rude people for me. Compared to the others, El Paso is a pit. Fort Worth is a lot friendlier and has the economic momentum of Dallas. Memphis is alright, it's got all the problems of New Orleans and a little less charm...

The thing about Memphis that gets me is how it doesn't seem to play up its charms enough, its own unique culture and music scene. They tout Beale Street as their own live music/entertainment strip, but most of the establishments are branches of New Orleans joints, and a lot of the food is New Orleans food. Why would a place with so much blues and BBQ just rip off Bourbon Street? Makes no sense. And Memphis is really dangerous, to add insult to injury

Fort Worth seems kind of strange to add in this list, and El Paso seems like the person just said uhhhh, let me add another city in here.
