Yea and if Texas legalizes gambling that may be out of the window. It'll cripple all of LA once Galveston and South Padre build up.

Which is why we need to revitalize downtown so that ppl still want to come to LC. I try not to think so negatively about that. Yes it will definitely affect us, but I try to be somewhat optimistic and hope for some business in our casinoes as well as improvement in the city.

They have that lake, with downtown right there, and roughly 9 million people in a few hours drive. The state didn't capitalize on it's amenities and opportunities earlier in history. Look at all of our metros, 3 or 4 could be twice the size.

Maybe, but I think too many people are afraid of Louisiana weather. Most people scoff at the humidity, and all the hurricanes the last few years haven't helped matters.

No one is afraid of south Florida's hurricanes and it's humidity, which is worse than ours or the people in Houston who has to deal with its humidity.

I commonly like to think about Texas and Louisiana swapping places. Shreveport could have been Dallas' respectable replacement city for heavy rail and transportation. New Orleans obviously could have replaced Houston and its energy industry. Austin/San Antonio are kind of interchangeable with Lafayette and Baton Rouge.

New Orleans and Lafayette are the two cities to watch in LA.

Look out for Shreveport if I-69 and I-49 are ever completed. Look our for the Big Ragedy, too.

I just may go out and spend a day out at the contraband festival. Go have a good funnel cake, and walk around. Go to a bar, I mean, I need some de-stressing after this semester!

I drove through Lake Charles today on my way back from Houston and was thrilled that both lanes of the I-10 bridge were open. Is construction done, or was it suspended for the Contraband Days festival?

It also occurred to me that there were thousands driving to Houston to attend the annual OTC conference which might have also lead to a suspension. I had one heck of a time finding a hotel room in Houston last night...

Saw all the rides set up in downtown Lake Charles next to the Civic Center and it looks to be fun times. Never been, but we discussed making a day trip your way.

I have not been in ages, I'd like to check it out. Though I don't really ride rides and what not like I used to. It's a good little outing. As far as the construction, not sure if it's done or not actually, though I will cosign and agree that it is nice to have both lanes on the bridge open for the moment. The Houston conference very well may have lead to a suspension of the construction. If you do decide to make a day trip this way, I hope that you enjoy!
