Any word on just how long until the I-10 bridge construction is completed? Last Friday evening on the way back to Lafayette from Houston, we were stuck in bridge traffic for two and a half hours. We came to a near standstill just a few miles east of Vinton, and it was a snail's pace from that point until reaching the apex of the one-lane bridge.

I think the extra traffic can be attributed to a Friday evening avalanche of folks headed to NOLA from points west for the Mardi Gras weekend, en masse!

Took us right at seven hours from our lunch spot on Westheimer to our home in Lafayette. New personal record...

I went through the same traffic there. We were stuck for two hours just to the bridge. We were coming from Houston to Baton Rouge. I used to live on Westheimer.

I can't blame all the delays on that bridge, as it took us an hour and a half just to get from the Westheimer/Fountainview intersection to the San Jacinto Mall area via Hwy 59/I-10 where I stopped for gas. I stupidly told my wife that we had seen the worst of any traffic for the rest of the way.

I'm thinking that US 190 is the best option until Lake Charles gets done, at least during holidays. Traffic wasn't much better past the bridge to Lafayette, but at least we had two lanes and MOVED...

From the lake down to Cameron is a great drive.

lafayette is a very nice town, but it is very very small. If Lafyatte city have 300000 people, seems much better.

That's about the size of the whole metro area and bigger than both Shreveport and Baton Rouge. I don't think its that small but a few more people would be great IF the culture isn't diluted.

Why so far out? Things like this need to be at least in the loop.

That's where there's available land. Plus it's located along Nelson Road corridor, which is the growing part of town.

Let's see.

Lake Charles - casino? YES

Lafayette - casino? NO

Nuff said for me. I'll take Lake Charles, thank you!

They had to annex it for it to be in Lake Charles so it's barely in the city limits but nothing new, more suburban development.
