Moving to Bossier City, LA by Labor Day (Shreveport, Minden: relocating, real estate)

Due to a new job offer, I will be relocating from Hattiesburg, Mississippi to Bossier City, Louisiana by Labor Day.

Does anyone know of any good (yet affordable) neighborhoods in Bossier Parish? I am more interested in a housing area for young professionals as opposed to a single or multi-family community.

I have heard that North Bossier is developing quite well. Or should I look at one of the another parishes, such as Desoto, Webster, Caddo (Shreveport)?

Any suggestions? comments?

Except for Southeast Shreveport, I'd stay away from Shreveport. You will be much safer in Bossier. Southeast Shreveport tends to be pricey by Shreveport standards, but Broadmoor is a solid neighborhood with good value. Broadmoor would be a good choice if you don't plan on staying in the house for very long, but you should be cautious about buying there if you plan on living in the house for 15 or more years.

my mother in law and brother and sister in law live in Haughton and like it very much. It is really growing and there are lots of new subdivisions being built. But my brother and sister and law have kids, and have stayed there because of the schools. So if your not wanting to be where there are alot of family's it may not be for you. They have a twenty four your old daughter, that until recently lived in Shreveport and loved it. She liked going to clubs and eating out alot, so she said it was nice to be close to everything. But you do have to be very careful about the area you choose there. The crime rate in Shreveport is high. My neice lived in downtown Shreveport, but her apartment had gated parking so it was pretty safe. So from what I know the younger professional people mostly choose Shreveport and people with kids choose Haughton or Benton. But Bossier City has some nice apartments and seems to be growing too. I would make a trip and have a realtor show you the different areas before you decide.

No reason to look outside of Bossier Parish. It's the best place to live in the area, however, if you have not kids there are some really nice apartments in Southeast Shreveport that would be great for what you're looking for. But beyond Southeast Shreveport I would stick with Bossier. Can't quite point you in a direction because I'm not sure what affordable means to you.

It amazes me how people are so ridiculous about certain parts of N Louisiana, particularly Shreveport. First off, Louisiana is not that great of a place. My husband is in the Air Force and we have been hear for about 2 years now. Originally we looked at neighborhoods in Bossier, because we knew the base was in that city...well town. And the neighborhoods and communities we looked at were nice...for the most part. But, we ended up buying a very nice condo in Shreveport it is located in Broadmoor a little past LSUS. It is very nice, quiet and convenient. It is very close to the majority of Shreveport and Bossier's Retail, Restaurants and Downtown area. It is also close to the base for my husband and school for me! We love it! It's quiet, we dont have problems, and THEY ARE CHEAP!!!! We thought we were getting a steal on this condo, but we soo found out the economy here is VERY CHEAP! GOOD LUCK!

North Bossier is by far your best bet. If you give me a price range, I can give you more specific neighborhoods. I would not recommend DeSoto or Webster. There are some great condos for young professionals that are becoming "hot spots" in Shreveport. Do you want a yard or not? Some neighborhoods offer front yard maintenance with their HOA dues.

I don't think there is anything good to say about DeSoto schools...and compared to Shreveport and Bossier, they just don't seem to stack up. With the introduction of I 49 making some of the area more convenient, there seems to be an increase of residential development, but the area just is not proven yet.

Webster has Minden which is an adorable town.....but also doesnt really stack up. I enjoy driving downtown and seeing the older homes....the brick streets are quaint....but it doesn't really offer much in the way of retail. We actually have several families at our church that moved to Benton from Minden because they wanted a small town feel, but also wanted the convenience of shopping, entertainment, and better returns on their real estate investment. Cotton Valley is worth no mention....and like a lot of the parish, is in decline.
I am still placing my bets on North Bossier.....just wish I could transplant one of those old Shreveport streets like Linden over here.....back when all homes looked different and had their own character. That is one downfall to these new sprawling subdivisions...they are typically built in the middle of pastures or corn fields and have no mature trees.....

This Area Is Easy Access To Most Areas Of Shreveport Bossier
By Several Different Routes

Homes In Bossier
North Bossier : Airline Drive Is A Mess To Travel On, But North Bossier Has Some Nice Homes, Not Much In The Way Of Apartments
For Young Professionals
There Is Alot To Do In Shreveport/bossier Area You Will Enjoy It
I Have Lived Here All My Life And There Is Always Something Going On.
Would Not Rec Any Other Areas Of Shreveport To Live In
Haughton Is Pretty Much Rural And Away From Young Professional
Living
