I just talked to my mom. She was there a few days ago. Same info as the above poster. She said there are fancy homes being built down by the beach but not much else. Sadly, I don't think it will ever again be the Holly Beach we knew and loved. It just won't be the same.

Cameron/Holly Beach are definetly not resort areas. They are not very pretty but we loev them because they're home. People who have actually seen pretty beaches are not impressed. lol

OH, about I-10. I actually live right at the Alexandria exit right outside Iowa, LA. We are under MAJOR construction right here. And we pronounce it Iway.

I fully concur that Holly Beach/Cameron is NOT a place to go if you're wanting a typical beach vacation ala Hawaii or Florida...being highly disappointed would be a severe understatement lol. Good advice from the other posters though I haven't been there since 2002ish and more west towards Johnson Bayou but I recall the beaches were pretty bad...full of trash and dead fish (nothing to do with the oil rigs you can see from the shore I'm sure) as well as signs saying not to go in the water because of bacteria. Not to mention all the lil sand-hopper insect things (sand fleas? I don't know...pretty bad considering I love bugs and ID'ing them). Maybe it's changed since then, doubt it. Holly Beach seemed a bit cleaner/nicer but I didn't spend much time there. Great getaway place for locals who don't want to go with the crowds in TX and MS/FL...not the place I would like to vacation though.
