I don't believe in the Bible at all. But I do believe that Jesus existed. The Bible was clearly written to cater to its time, 2,000 years ago. I find it just a LITTLE strange that the "son of god" showed up on Earth just once, two thousand years ago and never once returned. And with no sign of even returning. Seriously people...it's time to stop believing in ancient superstition and mythology. Louisiana is stuck in the dark ages where Christianity is the law of the land.

Seems to me that you are speaking of most of the world, including CT and the Northeast, and not just Louisiana. You telling anyone what they should or shouldn't cast you in the same light as those parents the article speaks of. Either way, my belief works for me as I know what God has/hasn't done for me. Why that should affect you in anyway, I have no idea.

Of course you don't believe the Bible. You are trying to use the lack of your wisdom to understand the truth. My guess is that you have spent very little in the time in the book yourself. You have no idea about the supernatural that is within that book. You have no idea that Christ fulfilled 300 prophecies, or predictions if you will, hundreds of years before he was born. You don't see the secret messages embedded in the text. I don't have a problem with you not believing it. I do feel sad when people don't believe it. Even people who consider themselves Christians don't believe the Bible. I'll be praying for you and your atheist buddies. My prayer is that you invest some time in your past and future and understand this one fact. You can prove the Bible is true, by doing your homework. Obviously men cannot predict the future. The fact that we have evidence that the Old Testament was written hundreds of years before Christ. One prophecy in particular that told us 173K days later that Jesus would first present himself as the Messiah and on the exact day he did just that, the ramifications are life changing, both present and past.

I'll go pray for you right now.

Have a blessed day in the Lord.

It seems that this thread was merely started to get a rise out of people. The town mentioned is kind of KNOWN for it's religious attitude among the citizens. The average Louisianian really could not care less if you are an atheist or not.

I'm an Agnostic/Atheist and live in Lake Charles. I know a lot of people that are Atheists and Agnostics that live here.

My sister is also Agnostic/Atheist and my dad is also Agnostic. My mom believes in God and came from a religious family, but she isn't what I'd say "religious".

I don't know why Louisiana is being categorized and thought of as a religious state in the south, I would say it is probably one of the least right behind Georgia and Florida. If you are looking to rank one of the most religious states try maybe Mississippi, Alabama, Arkansas or Missouri. Missouri have a lot of Christian fundamentalists.

Reading Louisiana's ranking as the number one religious state and reading that story about the boy in Bastrop (near rural Monroe) being ostracized from his community I'm a little taken aback.

I live in LC and from what I know most people in Louisiana albeit religious are very nice and understanding, regardless if you're irreligious. I have had many friends that were nonbelievers like myself, and on the other hand many friends who are believers and they have never had any problems with me not acknowledging their God.

I'd say Shreveport is about the least religious city in Louisiana, followed by Lake Charles and New Orleans. Opelousas, Monroe and Alexandria are probably the most religious. And then there are the smaller towns like Eunice and Mamou which are very religious.

You'll find a lot more people are less religious once you move further west towards Texas, (although Texas is pretty religious itself).

The thing about Louisiana isn't that it is religious, it is that it is predominantly CATHOLIC and not Protestant Baptist. A lot of states that are heavily Catholic are found in the Northeast and the west, and those states tend to be less extreme when it comes to religious beliefs. Southern Louisiana is very open to controversial topics and cultures because of this. In many ways, Southern Louisiana is definitely Deep South, but religious-wise, it really isnt.
