Hi, it is a very small town with nice people! There is a lot of work for guys and for women a bit, 30 minutes away is Lafayette which is more like a city Bc it is big and has a lot of stores and things and is beautiful too. I think New Iberia is a nice, calming place to live! It is really cheap to live there too!! Although it is a small town they do have things to do. Avery island is. Gorgues place to go tour! And the beach is only about 15min away and the drive to there is gorgues! You'll see a few alligators once in a while in the lakes or little crabs and flamingos.
For work my grandma makes good and sells it go the guys working outside on boats or construction.. Or there is some stores you could apply for work at. My dad's side of my family live down there and my mom and I live in TN but we go there for vacation A LOT and we're also moving down there in a few months. Of course it's going to be a while to get used to living down there but overall I think you'll love it! Good luck and I hope you enjoy it (:

Totally agree. OP seems from GA, so please do not compare with GA and LA because GA have over 10 million people, while Louisiana have roughly 4 million.

New Iberia looks like many southern towns. They are looking like declined in past several years, but it is not. Oil &Gas industry makes New Iberia a richer town than it looks like.

Drearamos is correct, New Iberia' living cost is very low (I mean very low). However, Louisiana's housing market is stable. You cannot make great house deals like Atlanta in the financial crisis.

All in all, it is a great place to live.
