Do you know anything about Addis, La
Help PLEASE!!!! My fiance works near Addis, La. He says that it is a really cute town and is talking about us moving there. But I live in Mississippi so I know nothing about this little town. I was wondering if anyone knows anything about it or if anyone lives there. Is it a nice town, a good place to raise a family or anything. Anything will help. Thanks!!!!

It's slowly but surely becoming a suburb of Baton Rouge. It's across the river from Baton Rouge and is surrounded by sugar cane, with petrochemical plants and swamp nearby.
In recent years, LA 1 (which parallels the Miss. River and runs through Addis) from I-10 down to Addis has seen suburban and some retail growth. And I know they also put a Super Wal-Mart up the road in Brusly (pronounced Brew-lee).
Give it a visit and see what you think. Where does he live now ?

He lives in Baton Rouge right now. He loves the look of Addis. I haven't been able to go see it so I'm kinda iffie about it. I just heard that the only good schools were Catholic schools which i am sure cost an arm and a leg. I just don't know. I heard that since Katrina that the violence has went from bad to worseI mean it has gotten worse here too in MS. I just I am really confused if you can't tell.=)

West Baton Rouge Parish schools don't have the reputation of Ascension or Livingston, but I haven't heard really bad things about them. Plus, Brusly/Addis (really, stuff south of I-10/the Intracoastal Waterway) are the nicer parts of the parish, and are receiving a lot of the new construction.

I live in Brusly, LA and am involved with all the schools in WBR. IF you are going to have your kids in school in WBR, you need to live in Addis or Brusly and send your kids to school over there. The public schools there are better than the K-8 Catholic School.
Good luck!

I am from West Baton Rouge Parish, Brusly to be exact. Addis school are Brusly schools!! You are near many chemical plants and the cancer rate is very high. The schools are terrible, I know my children where NOT educated there. Lukeville, Brusly Elementary and Brusly High School are TERRIBLE!~!!! Holy Family Catholic School {Port Allen} is better than the ones I mentioned! My 19 yr. old opted to go to Youth Challenge National Guard {Carville, LA} to finish school because Brusly schools failed him from kindergarten thru 11th grade, his average on military school based on his public education was 3rd grade 3rd month after 11 years in public school in Brusly. You are better served school wise to be in Ascension Parish {Gonzales, French Settlement, Dutchtown} your husband could take the ferry to work. Plus Ascension offers nice landscape and many things to do. Research the demographic before settling in. Good luck let me know if I can help! God Bless.
Port Allee, Brusly & Addis have always been a suburb of Baton Rouge!! I have lived there since Katrina. I opted to leave afterwards because of the influz of people, additional drugs and dealers from New Orleans as well as the surge of people. I have not been home since however, my sister tells me my heart would be broken to see how the surge has changed our community for the worst. Go to Ascension Parish for home and schools! Your husband can take the iberville ferry to work and YOU can rest well knowing your children have a chance to be educated. The education system was horrible before Katrina but now the classroom house 40+ students per class and God forbid your child have any sort of special needs!!

Well I totally disagree with the comment about Brusly Elem. School. My daughter went to Zachary for a little while and that is suppose to be one of the best schools , well when she went to Brusly she was behind. Now this year she is top of her class, caring a 4.0 , perfect attendance. We love the school and have nothing bad to say. I really beleive it was you make of your childs education. As for Addis , we live there and love it as well.
