Lafayette is just west of the Atchafalaya Basin, a large inland swamp stretching nearly 40 miles, fishing, hunting and outdoors are big here. You can go on tours of the swamps near Henderson, LA. This is a small family oriented city, big on technology and in the middle of a building boom.
