Default relocating from Montana

We are considering relocating to Louisiana from Montana. We are looking in the Pineville area (where my husband grew up) as well as Natchitoches (halfway between his old friends in Pineville and his grandchildren in Shreveport) My question: If you could choose anywhere in Louisiana to live where would you go and why? hope to here from someone!! Thanks.

I recommend moving to Minden. You have the convenience of the Super Wal-Mart, Taco Bell, Wendy's, etc. without having to drive 15 minutes or more from the country; but yet, Minden still has that small own feel. And you would be close to your grandchildren who live in Shreveport!
I'm orginally from Doyline, and currently live in Houston. I've often thought about moving back home. I think Haugton and Bossier City also would be good choices.

Jeeze Willow...

Actually, many feel the Shreveport is a S%$thole... Honestly, the best place to live in Louisiana is Lafayette. Close to the coast for easy access, but not on it to get pulverized by hurricanes. usually fairs very well... Very "High Ground" area... Flooding is extremely rare.

Lafayette is unlike any other city in LA. It have excellent schools and it is the "Heart" of what is Cajun Country in LA. So, it has more restaurants per capita than any other city in the USA. Cajun food capitol and it is surrounded by many great small towns with fun festivals. It is only an hour south of Pineville, so it would be easy to get back & forth. It is only 2 hours from New Orleans if you are interested in a quick vacation.

Actually, I am considering taking a Job in Boise.. which is near you... Any suggestions?

Teresa:

I just became a member of City-Data so I was just checking the site out and came across your email. Girl what are you thinking? Leaving MT to go South, didn't you hear the news? They are going to fall off to the Gulf soon!

I was married to a CoonA*& for ten years and I won't ever be back! The only good thing about LA in the cooking and I learned how to cook from my ex-husband's MaMaw and that is it! I really can't stand the state and don't ever plan on visiting any time soon.

I know that your family is there, but move them North where you can at least breathe and actually Wyoming is known as "God's Country".

Wow, what an opinion. The only people I know who think badly of Shreveport are those who will never do anything with their lives. Have you been to Shreveport lately? If so, there's no way you can form that opinion of Shreveport.

Nothing against Lafayette, but it's certainly not superior to Shreveport, Baton Rouge, or New Orleans.

Actually, New York City has more restaurants per capita than any other city in the nation, and Dallas is second. Lafayette is nowhere near the top of the list.

To the original poster:

To give an honest opinion, if you're trying to locate somewhere near family, Natchitoches is a great place. But Bossier City would be a great place as well, and you'd be right across the river from Shreveport. The best areas of Bossier to live in would be either north Bossier, near Benton, or east Bossier near Haughton.

Good luck, and I hope you have success in finding a place to live.

There is only one place in La. that is worth considering moving to right now and that's New Orleans. Is it a part of La? No, not really, it's a City unique to itself. Property is becoming reasonably priced (unlike any other part of the country) and you can be part of a unique renaissance, watching the re-birth of a major American City.

Default best city

personally, i am trying to get out of this state. however im just graduating from college and beginning my career so I want to get away to a bigger place. However, if I had to stay here then I would choose to live in Shreveport. I've lived there before when I was going to college over there and I really liked it. It's also growing rapidly and gaining national attention because of all the movies that have been/are being filmed there currently. If you are wanting to live closer to your husband's family, Pineville is alright. Alexandria isn't the most exciting community but it's better than where I live anyways. I haven't really been to Natchitoches all that much, but if you are moving away to retire.. that would probably be the nicest place. There are a lot of nice homes there and the atmosphere is nicer in my opinion--just from my few visits.

Wow, I do not know that we are supposed to fight on this board... but OK. After looking up some stats I admit Lafayette is not what it used to be in number of restuarants... But New York city not top either... It is actually Addison, TX. FROM WICKOPEDIA, "Lafayette, LA also has one of the highest restaurant counts per capita of cities in the area" so close enough.

QUOTE: The only people I know who think badly of Shreveport are those who will never do anything with their lives.

Real Nice. Amazing what you can assume about people.

Honestly I go to Shreveport all the time and aside from Casinos and their downtown area which skyrises which are only about 15% filled, Shreveport has a pretty lake. That is it. Anyone can have casinos and think the place has substance... They rarely do. Their economy is casinos..

Lafayette is right by the coast and the Heart if Acadiana (The Actual land where Cajuns live). We have amazing restaurants (not just chains) and the people are great. Housing is affordable, and the city is clean (unlike Shreveport). The University of Louisiana - Lafayette is the second largest University in LA (Second to LSU of course) and city really rallies around their University. The whole downtown area was rebuilt and stages per built for the yearly Festival Internationale de Louisiane http://www.festivalinternational.com/site6.php The festival is getting so big the city is rebuilding around it.

Also downtown every Friday fills with people for "Downtown Alive" which is several bands playing on the streets. EVERY FRIDAY except winter.

Lafayette is unlike anywhere else on LA. People are great and the culture is authentic Louisiana.

And my critic said Lafayette is no better than Baton Rouge... Clearly The only people I know who think badly of Lafayette are those who will never do anything with their lives...

By the way, I have lived in NYC, NOLA, New Haven, CT & BR, LA and I guarantee you Lafayette has a lot to offer.

Sorry about the spite in my post... I was accused of, "are those who will never do anything with their lives..."

Default Shreveport

HEY!
Shreveport is nice and VERY PRETTY. (I don't like Pineville) and I LOVE LOUISIANA!! I wouldn't live anywhere else. I agree that Shreveport is growing. LSUS has fun stuff to do and learn (I am taking a quick class on
IPODS) and the people are nice). I just bought house here last week (about $140,000 for 2,000 sq ft in Broadmoor Area) and it is a very nice neighborhood. There will be fun stuff for you and the grad kids to do. Lafayette is more fun, though. (
Adult fun) Good luck!
