Thanks everyone for the replies! You all have much more positive opinions than those from some of the other threads regarding LA higher education. I was leaning more towards University of Alabama, but I think I'll look more into LSU now!

You asked Bama alumni about LSU? If so, you must not watch college football.

I have to say that LSU takes a big part of state education budget. (At least 30%), rest of schools only take 70%.

haha, she may not know what is "Alabama" mean to LSU fan.

But, I have to say, it depend on academic program. If you study Law, I recommend to Alabama. If business program, they are the same level school.

I am a LSU grad and it is a wonderful school. Please don't let others negative opinions influence you.

LSU grad as well. I think the opinion comes from the fact the current administration is very quick to cut funding from higher education for the budget, but in general I don't think I would agree with that opinion as a lifelong resident here. School wise, I consider it the best public university in the state.

However, like any other school, some schools better fund certain departments more than other. For example, I'm a computer sci major, and the computer sci department didn't really get its act together until after I left in 2010 [at least from my view]. The general sciences, however, tend to be very well funded if that's what you plan to get into.
