To be more specific, I am moving from New Orleans, LA to Natchitoches, LA for college in August. Besides the obvious decrease in size, what major differences should I expect that I will have to adapt to?

I find people up there to be really friendly but more sheltered. Also drinking is not going to be as laid back as South Louisiana. Natchitoches is a nice town, I like it. Its not too far from Toledo Bend which is gorgeous, and there is a surprising amount of things to do in Shreveport (relatively speaking).

The good news is that you will get away from all of the weirdos in New Orleans proper. You will also be around Bible believing Christians so that's a major plus. You will also be away from all of those drunkards and crime so you are a winner there. The bad news is less good food and less entertainment. But since you are in school and your focus should be "studying" it will be a good environment for you. I went to LSU and lost all sorts of control before transferring to Nacogdoches on the other side of the river and it was a nice place to attend college.

More protestants(not necessarily a bad thing), cooking that is not as good, drinking policies much more strict. With that being said, there are some beautiful areas out there.
