That's exactly right. I believe Tulane (formerly the Univ of Louisiana) was started around 30 years prior to LSU.

I don't think it's that strage that LSU, instead of a UL, is the flagship. As the original poster pointed out, just look at Ohio State.

What I do find strage is how some of the universities are named. Take McNeese State University for example... based on the name, I would've expected NcNeese State to be part of the LSU system, but it's actually part of the UL system. Why on Earth it isn't named The University of Louisiana at Lake CHarles or The University of Louisiana NcNeese is beyond me. Maybe I'm just used to California where everything is clearly labeled UC or CSU.

I am curious though... I know LSU is the "big" school in Louisiana, but is it the most prestigious of the public universities? Back home in CA, the perception is that a UC is always more prestigious that a CSU.

It's much easier to call it McNeese State instead of UL at Lake Charles, we'd have too many UL campuses around the state. I'd rather it the way it is now.
LSU is the most prestigious public university in the state however there are programs that compare or excel what LSU offers at schools like UL or LaTech.

I agree with you. McNeese is small and not competitive to other school in Texas. It is better to call U of LA-Lake Charles, It seems much better.

What does Texas have to do with this? Explain how a name change would be better please.
