Default Why isn't LSU the Univ of La?

Why isn't LSU known as the University of Louisiana?

Flagship universities in most states are the Univ of _____.

The exceptions of Ohio and Pennsylvania are obvious:

Ohio State had to be OSU as there was already a public Ohio U.

In Pennsylvania, the private Penn made it necessary for the flagship to be Penn State.

But why in Louisiana?

Way back when, Tulane was called University of Louisiana. Couldn't have two unis with the same name...Tulane became private and that's that.

Was Tulane the state school? Flagships probably didn't exist then.

Universities that have the "State" title are usualy the schools founded under the Land Grant Act of Abaham Lincoln which had as its goal the creation of a school of higher learning in all the states of the United States not just the ones with a big city or along the US East Coast. The Federal Government gave the states a grant of undeveloped land to do with what they pleased just as long as the funds generated were used to build or support the designated school of higher learning. The first two states to take advantage of this law were Michigan and Pennsylvania which created what became Penn State and Michigan State Universities. Both Penn State and Michigan State were small polytechinics ( Penn State was originally called Farmer's High School before it became Pennsylvania State College ) Penn State College didn't become a University until 1952 when it became Pennsylvania State University.
As a PSU student in the mid 1970s I took ironic pride that I slept on a matress in one of the oldest dorms at PSU (West Halls) that had a PSC serial number painted on it. It was a matress that was older than me and had become University property on or before 1952.

The official name change to Louisiana State University came in March of 1870 .

In most states, they support two universities as their flagship university. However, however ,however, Corrupt LA government only have money to support LSU as flagship. LA tech and UL are all well enough to be the flagship university.

Yea.. that's pretty disgusting.
It would be interesting if UL was our second flagship.
