You can actually get meatpies just as awesome down in Duson, but yes, it started in Natchitoches.

Expect to make a lot of trips down I-49 to keep your sanity!! I moved to Shreveport a couple years ago to get in on the gas drilling boom, along with many other fellow south Louisianians. Every Friday afternoon, it's a race to see who can get out of town the fastest. I will say that Natchitoches seems a little more interesting than Shreveport, though, and I think Northwestern is a pretty good school. Good luck.

Ok....heres the skinny. Natchitoches has its historical flare theres no denying that....but....(sighs)...outside of the holiday festivals and a few annual fests.....Natchitoches is boring. I would to love to hoo-raw hoo-raw the town I spent my first year of college in, but like the guy above me said.....That town was a ghost on the weekend. NOTHING.....NOTHING HAPPENED THERE.

Now as for the school, great quiet environment, excellent for studying.....sometimes I wished I stay because of that, but great school. I disagree on the food, the food there is nice, not New Orleans but Natchitoches has some great food. The river stage is cool, and the historical affairs are worth checking out...............but

Overall Natchitoches is so..so.

Theres a quiet presence of supremists of all types in Natchitoches as I noticed in Central Louisiana as a whole. Certain groups like to isolate, remove, and dictate things in town. I remember driving around and gaining this eerie feeling that I need to stay on the college grounds or go on back to Monroe.

Anyway...thats my $.99.

I used to travel for my job and would stay in Natchitoches several times a year . Although there was very little to do there , I never felt uncomfortable being out and about .

The good thing about Nach is that you have little concern about being shot like you do in New Orleans. As I said, you job is doing well in school and it's a much better place to focus on your goal than in New Orleans.

Yes, luckily I've recovered from my many gunshots. Guns don't function once you enter the city limits of Natchitoches.

This is completely off subject, but isn't Nachitoches older than New Orleans or almost as old?

Natchitoches was founded 4 years before New Orleans but both were settled hundreds of years before they were founded.
