I have land on Toledo Bend Lake and Natchitoches is not too faraway. It is a very quaint and picturesque town. If the film industry develops in Shreveport or anywhere in Louisiana I know they will come to town--as they did with Steel Magnolias. There are good eats and culture, too. If you need sophisticated medical, you can buzz up to the University Hospitals in Shreveport, which are on the side of town that is nearest to Natchitoches.
I think it is an undiscovered gem. The heat and humidity will probably discourage some folks. But it is geen and beautiful. I have given some thought to living there and keeping the Toledo Bend stuff as a retreat.

Be sure to check out the health care system in Natchitoches before deciding to retire there! My aunt spent a total of 7 hours in the Natchitoches Regional Hospital emergency room last week in very serious condition. The environment was chaotic, the duty nurse was rude, and my aunt was finally taken to Shreveport where she could receive medical care. Her primary care doctor could not be reached -- no voice mail, no back-up referral. Natchitoches is a great place for the healthy but could be deadly for those in need of health care. Be sure to "buzz up to the University Hospitals in Shreveport" without stopping in Natchitoches!
