Planning ahead is not this state's strong suit. They are all busy smoking meth, freaking out about football and complaining about Yankees.

In 2006 this might be true, now, it is not.
Which situation "went bad"? Our economy is better than the national average.

The crime rate in Baton Rouge. After Katrina it went through the roof and although it has decreased in recent years it is still way above the previous rates. It's currently the 25th most dangerous city in the nation. The issue has been discussed many times by city and state leaders.. it's a major issue. The murder rate went up some-what but the overall violent and property crime rates for Baton Rouge are basically the same as before 2005.

Also before 2005 New Orleans still had a lower violent and property crime rate than Baton Rouge but New Orleans' murder rate was higher.

Lake Charles has unfortunately had three murders this past weekend. One each day . What the hell is going on w/ this city? The murder that happened on Melvin St. and Alma Lane was particularly gruesome, w/ the body being chopped up. Then there was one which unfortunately the victim was a guy I went to high school with. He was a good guy, he didn't deserve this.

This thread reminds me of when I was a college student in New Orleans. Everybody I knew was a victim. So much wasted potential. Memphis thinks it has bad crime and corruption. It has nothing on Louisiana.

Memphis actually has a worse crime rate than New Orleans. Also Tennessee's crime rate is about the same as Louisiana's.

It's not about the crime rate, but the murder rate.
