The masons used to have presence in Alexandria, but now all you see are the one small temple and the old properties (the old Masonic children's home has been converted to apartments) and of course, the street name.

I don't know anyone who has met a Mason. If they are around, they are hidden.

(I am well-traveled in the state of Louisiana and am super familiar with many areas).

Completely agree with Karnaaron above that the town is surprising in many ways and yes, needs a breath of fresh air in the form of entertainment and restaurants. If you haven't eaten at Janon's in Boyce, you have missed out! We have little hidden restaurants "in the area" and not necessarily in the city proper...

The one odd thing that isn't seen so much any more is a gay man who married a lesbian woman and had one child. The area was obviously very very repressed a few decades ago.

There are many Masons here . They don't go around announcing their presence . I'm not sure how this is relevant to the OP .

I don't know any personally anymore but I'm sure they're around. My late father was one. It doesn't seem to be out in the open very much.
