Mandeville or Hammond?...HELP
I am a project manager and work anywhere between denham springs and slidell. I live in New Orleans now and am planning to move to north-shore. I don't have a family now (28 yo) and trying to find out how the entertainment/social life is in these two cities. Please advise if you are local in these communities. Thanks.

If (1) It's social life you want, and (2) You're ONLY looking at those two towns, Hammond has the advantage of SLU and the social life that goes with it. Mandeville is more of a quiet family place like Abita and Covington.

I agree with BRMan, though I'll note that Hammond is not your average college town. Southeastern Louisiana University is a commuter school mainly, I guess you could say, so though it is not small (over 16,000 students, I believe), there isn't the level of activity in the surrounding area that you would see near a major university. From what I've seen, Mandeville is sleepier, but it is very lovely. I've heard people speak with disdain of citizens in Mandeville, claiming that they are overwhelmingly snobbish. I can't really comment on that myself. As far as safety during hurricane season, you're in a better place in Hammond. Both are great if you don't want to be in a small town in the middle of the country but don't want to deal with a big city.

SLU is mostly commuter, but you'll still have some semblance of campus life. Moreso than Mandeville, anyway.

I use to party in the Hammond area and had a blast! Made tons of friends and loved it there... then I moved away...
