My husband started working for a company that is currently located in Morgan City, Louisiana. I am currently tring to talk him into moving there (we currently live in Monroe, LA). It would save on gas and time from traveling back in forth from work.
I want to know more about this wonderful little city. Can anyone give me any kind of information (especially about houses or apartments for rent). Also need to find out about good schools. We have 4 children ranging from 10 years old down to 3 years old. Another thing that is of great concern. I need to know if Black/White relationship is not a big problem (he's black, I'm white). |

Hi I was born and raised in the Morgan City area. If I were you I would consider Berwick witch is only over the bridge from Morgan City. The schools are much better I went to Morgan City high and Berwick high and Berwick was a much better school with ALOT less violence. Also the neighborhoods are much cleaner it is the type of place you kids can ride thier bikes around. Housing costs are resonable and you are basicly in the middle of the tri city area so shopping is convient. Also parts of Bayou Vista are nice and your kids would in most cases go to berwick schools. The most affordable area in berwick is the area near the elem. school. Good luck with your search. I don't live there anymore since my husband was transferred to Texas but I am glad I grew up there, and I am sure you would love it. Oh yeah if I were you I would avoid Patterson at all costs the schools are the worst there I had three different people ask my parents at the time if they could use our address to get their kids out of patterson schools. As far as interacial relationships go, You will find bigots anywhere you go but there is a good mix of black white and hispanic people in berwick it is more white than anything but I rarley encoutered idiots there, so I don't think you would have a problem

I agree that Berwick probably has better schools than Morgan City. But you have good and bad neighborhoods in every area. I grew up in Patterson and went to school there. It was a great school not only academically, but socially and it was safe. I had both friends and teachers that left a lasting impact on my life there.
There weren't anymore interracial relationships at Patterson as there were at any other local school. I think your "friends" were afraid that their kids might disappoint them but participating in an interracial relationship? |
