Everytime someone wants to change something, for better or worse, people start screaming about tradition or "that's how it's always been". It's time for that thinking to die off. We can clean up schools, roads, politics, health care, etc and still have great sports traditions, crawfish boils, festivals & parades, great music, New Orleans history & style, old column antebellum homes, drive-thru daiquiris, etc.

Seems like sombody might as well just move to Vermont. Also, my first post was meant to be taken in a humorous way. Chillax.

You sound like an awesome person. And I meant what I said... welcome back. Welcome home not only to Louisiana, but to north Louisiana! Since Shreveport is just an hour north of Natchitoches, try to make it up this way sometime too. It's changed a lot in the last 10-15 years.

1 Cajun Food
2 a real sense of culture, music, people, places
3 swamps are beautiful (Im not even kidding) and there are many other beautiful parks and places to visit in the state
4 friendly people
5 the history (Vermillionville, Acadian village, plantations and avery island among others)
6 New Orleans in general
7 a relaxed attitude/ laissez faire
8 a really damn fast internet connection in some areas
9 the location relative to other areas of interest- not far from the beautiful Gulf coast, big cities in Texas, and the Florida panhandle.
10 the football teams. geaux LSU/Saints!
Louisiana is a very unique state and one of the few in the nation that hasnt completely lost its identitiy. We may rank dead last in many things, but this place has a soul. It has a real vitality to it that the downsides just cannot affect.
they cant ruin my love for this state.

As someone getting ready to move to LA, it makes me sad to see that everyone's favorite thing seems to be the food because (tragically) I am allergic to most of it. I can't eat ANY fish/seafood/etc and almost no "spicy" (by total ***** standards) foods. <sadness>
Although, honestly, I don't think I could do the crayfish thing anyway.

I love that we have a yard instead of a 4 foot by 4 foot swatch of grass that was called a yard in my last home.
I love that the stores are clean and modern. Bleh... Shopping in old groceries stores was a drag.
I love not having to sit in 2 hours worth of traffic to drive what should be 20 minutes.
I love not having to deal with extremely aggressive homeless people constantly.
I love how friendly people are here.
I love the change of season.
I'm comparing Shreveport to a bad area of Tampa, Florida where I used to live.
