Need Houma info.
Hi all. I am considering a job in Houma and would like to know which parts of Houma I should lok at for apartments. I don't want crime just like everyone else. A small but clean apartment is what I'm looking for; $500 - $600 range is what I am shooting for but could go a little higher if needed.. I am single and don't have any children so schools are not a concern. Staying away from flood prone areas is also important, if that's even possible in this part of Louisiana. Hurricanes are a major concern for me.
Links to websites that post local properties available and links to Houma in general would be appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help.

houma, really??
i lived in houma for about 10 years (6 with parents - 4 with ex) and i despise going back there - i have moved 18 times so i know how other places are...
i really dont like the way people are there - let me explain...
everyone is related! seriously! no joke - they are all related. if you are a new person - after 10 yrs, i was still considered to be a "new person" - you just dont fit in anywhere there - no one actually accepts you. they will marry you, they will be friends with you, but they will dump you off when the "family" thing comes up - this means 5th or 6th cousins...
the mardi gras is great!
the Lunch Basket is AMAZING!
the oil field is very good there.
there are tons of churches of different religions.
but its always wet looking. its always dreary...
see if your company can move you somewhere else!

You sound hurt and jaded. Sorry to hear that.
I will be moving to Houma or surrounding area so I just need advice on cheap apartments and where the bad areas are. If it's as bad as you say it is, I'll move, but I have to go there for at least a year.

You could rent a house for the amount you wish to spend. Look in Lisa Park, Broadmoor, Mulberry, Summerfield, Southdown West for a start if you want to live in Houma proper. These are largely residential areas with mostly home-owners, but it's a start.

Thanks for the reply. I am here in Houma now. Found a cheap apartment in the Broadmoor area. I only have a 6 month lease so I will keep my eye open for a small house to rent in this area in a few months.

Lightning, you might also try posting in the Parenting>Special Kids forum off the main page of forums...there are lots of parents of autistic and Asperger's kids there - maybe one is from LA and can help you some, too.
