My husband and I are interested in a move to the Lafayette area. I'm not seeing many options whatsoever in the area for excellent secular schooling options. I do not want to homeschool, nor do I want to have to take my kids all the way to Alexandria. It seems even the Montessori schools are Roman Catholic in this area. Can anyone suggest a good school option? Public or private, but I am seeing that religion is very prevalent even in public schools here.

South Louisiana is predominantly Catholic, and many people are religious.

Yes, thank you for your input, and I'm quite aware of that. My husband was raised Catholic, in New Iberia. However we are not religious, therefore I am looking for a secular option.

It's my understanding that there are three language-immersion schools in Lafayette: French-English, Spanish-English, and Mandarin-English. One of these might meet your needs.

To my knowledge, they are secular.

The public schools were closed here for several days for Mardi Gras - I suppose you could consider that religious.

I believe Mardi Gras is an official Louisiana holiday.
