Thumbs up Heading to Toledo Bend for Christmas.

I am off to Louisiana on Dec. 20th. I hear the big lake is being kept at 168 feet as agreed to by the power company and the legislatures/river authority. I will be going up and down the lake and assess the growth and possible amenities of the area as a retirement/resort area. I may be able to buzz over to Big Sam--Sam Rayburn Lake--as well. Will get a handle on Louisiana real estate taxes as being low enough to off-set the state income tax as opposed to the opposite situation on the Texas side.

I will stay at the same cabin I was at this Summer for 3 weeks. Big lake view and nice breeze even in the July heat. Very Comfortable with only ceiling fans on. I think it may be a bit cold now--a wood frame cabin set high on a bank with lots of breeze and set off the ground on pilings!

But the rental agent says it has central heat. How long that will last with single pane windows, no insulation, and tin roof I do not know! We shall see.

I will report back once I thaw out back in Florida.

But I decided long ago that big water views were my passion and this cabin gives me that. So long for now. God Bless. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Let the Good Times Roll!

Welcome to Toledo Bend for the Hollidays. Hope all is well. I live on Toledo Bend and find it very nice. Recently sold my home on the North end of the lake and now live a few blocks from the Sabine River that feeds in. Hope you enjoy your stay. Merry Christmas and Happy Hollidays.

Hi, KrisT! I just got back from the lake and am now back in Florida. I looked at a house for sale on Emmons Drive near Fisherman's Wharf. It is a round house--unique--but has too many structural flaws and problems with the sea wall. I really liked Rogers Subdivision in the Fisherman's Wharf area and noticed some vacant lots with a killer view. I believe they belong to Calvin and Joan McAdoo. Do you know them? I would really like to buy some land or a house in that area. My land just south of Jolly Roger Marina on Bear Creek does not have the best road into it--so am looking for a place near the land. Do you live near Logansport? Would love to hear from you. Kurt.

Hey, how was it? I was wondering about how much a cabin for family of four runs during the summer and winter both and what else, besides fishing, there is to do in the area?
