Oakdale, La is a place I am interested in working. I am on what I expect to be a short list of candidates to move to Oakdale. My look through old threads have been some help but I would like some more information.

I am single man with 2 small dogs. Under 150K 3/2 house with yard. Within say a 30 min ride of Oakdale? Would love to rent first but that does not seem to be an option from my research.

I enjoy outdoor activities but also enjoy casinos. I like to walk with the dogs outdoors with some scenery. I enjoy farmer's markets and local restaurants. I don't mind driving 15 minutes to shop to live with more elbow room and no traffic to work. I enjoy the local small time Christmas parade or food truck night as much as any other big time events of a big city. I like a small town which has some local events for the neighbors.

A very ignorant far-way view from Florida has me looking closely at Woodworth.

Any advice? How am i doing?!?!

THANKS!

Seeing that I'm from around the area, let me give some advice. There is absolutely nothing, zero, to do in Oakdale. Oakdale is a little sketchy as well--I would never live there. You mentioned Woodworth, which is a very nice town that is spread out over a large area. Woodworth is only 15 minutes outside of Alexandria which is a small town but has a mall, local restaurants, etc. Woodworth has had a lot of new neighborhoods pop up but I'm sure you could find a home around $150k. If you like casinos, Kinder has a casino. Kinder is 20/30 minutes south of Oakdale. Personally, Kinder is a nice little town. If you're open to a very small town life, I would choose Kinder. If you go to Kinder, it's about a 40 minute drive to Lake Charles which has a few casinos, as well and is bigger than Alexandria. It all depends on what type of town you're wanting to live in. You could live in Alexandria and commute to Oakdale, but that's kind of a hefty commute. Good luck!

I like the idea of Kinder as well. Does the town hold any local events or is all activity geared toward events in the casino?

Yes, I would expect Kinder to hold more small-town local events. However, you do have quite a few events held at the Casino. It definitely has that "small-town" feel.

Yeah that may be a problem in the small towns. Most people in these small towns have lived there their whole lives, so not many options.
