Default Moving to either Shreveport/Boiser City???

Hey You guys!

I came across this forum and I hope you guys can help me out.

I currently live in Arkansas about to move down to the Shreveport area in March. I know nothing of the city (been trying to research) and the surrounding areas. I heard the crime rate is high in Shreveport. That scares me a little bit.

Where would be the best place to go around that area? What are the better apartments? Would it be better to live in a city near Shreveport? Any advice would be helpful.

Thank you all so much!

Don't be afraid, really. It's very easy to stay safe in Shreveport... when you first get here, try to stay mainly on the freeways, parkways and other major highways and stay out of seedy-looking areas. You can pretty much bet that, if the area looks bad, it probably is. There are some "iffy" areas, but generally most areas around here that look bad are really bad and are best avoided.

Also, as a precaution I ALWAYS lock my car doors as soon as I get in. My wife also moved here from Arkansas about 5 years ago and I've yet to get her into that habit as hard as I try, but I always lock the doors as I get into the car, before I even start it. I even do this in small towns, just as a precaution. In today's world, no matter where you are, crime can occur where you least expect it!

If you search this forum for "Shreveport apartments" you should find a bunch pf posts where I've made recommendations. You most certainly should find something there.

Also don't forget about Bossier. Bossier has a lower crime rate overall and a lot of newer subdvisions and apartments, with more on the way.

If you prefer a suburban lifestyle to a city lifestyle, you might want to consider the following areas:

Extreme south Shreveport (Provenance, Twelve Oaks, Island Park, etc.)

Stonewall in north DeSoto Parish. Stonewall is just across the parish (county) line from Shreveport and is fast-becoming a developing suburban area for Shreveport commuters.

North Bossier City, from I-220 (bypass) north toward Benton.

Stockwell in east Bossier City.

Benton (north of Bossier City, growing rapidly and roads between Bossier City and Benton are being constructed, widened, etc.) Lots going on out that way.

Haughton (east of Bossier City, easy access along I-20. I personally reside in Haughton.)

I hope I've been of some help to you! Anything else I can do, just ask.

That helped some. At least it gives me names to look at for.

Me and my hubby plan to check out some apartments in the next week or so before we move. We are looking for a 2 bed 2 bath apartment that wont cost us an arm and a leg. Any ideas???

Thank you for all your help.

It's much appreciated.
