Default Parents Moving to NO

Hello All,

My parents are moving to NO and I was hoping you could help me figure out what neighborhood makes the most amount of sense for them.

They are both in their mid-50's and coming from the suburbs of Detroit. They need to be somewhat close to I-10 for job reasons but they definitely want to be in the city.

They want a single family home and it needs to be a safe area since my dad jogs daily. They prefer older homes that have been renovated and they need parking. They also want to be in a vibrant (preferably historical) neighborhood where you can walk to restaurants, stores, etc.

It doesn't need to be a large home (3 br), but the most important thing is that they live "in" NO and they are close to everything that makes NO great. They don't have a lot of money to spend (think ~500K or a little more) so ideally they would be the people who have the "worst" house on the street.

Any suggestions? I know of certain neighborhoods but what sections of certain streets should they be looking at?

Thanks in advance!

They don't have a lot of money to spend? lol Man I wish I had $500,000 to spend on a house.

They need to look into the Garden District! Surely they can find a home in there for that price... I could be wrong, I don't live there. But that's such a great neighborhood.

I think its a lot of money too, but I've been searching desirable neighborhoods (garden district included) and half a million doesn't necessarily go THAT far.

I was hoping some insiders could let me know if there are specific blocks and streets in neighborhoods such as the aforementioned garden district, french quarter, uptown, etc. where deals can be found.

You can also check around Lake Vista which is north of Robert E. Lee / Leon C. Simon to the lake between Pontchartrain / West End Blvd and Franklin. Most houses are going to be more than that but you can probably find some good deals. This area escaped most of the flooding from Katrina. You can also check in Lakeview (same area but south of Robert E. Lee / Leon C. Simon) if you want to consider a rebuilt house but I'm not sure what prices look like in there right now.

There are some great places available! In that price range, I know of 7 or 8 that are well located-how much room do they need? Also, when are they moving? I've lived here most of my life and location is definitely Very important!

lol @ 500k being not "a lot of money to spend", especially in Louisiana. I would love to be in your parents' "disposition".

Sounds like y'all would be perfect for either the Marigny, Garden District, or Bywater. Hell, even Broadmoor would suit y'all for that money.
