Is Lafayette Worth The Drive From Lake Charles??
Hi-
I've been to LA (New Orleans once by plane 2002-great city that must be fixed again!!), Shreveport-Bossier twice by car in 2006 & once by car 2.9.08) & Monroe (once by car 2.9.08) b/c an actress I like, Parker Posey lived there briefly but claims Laurel, MS which I've been to once last month on a plane for some friends' wedding.
My point is: I'm going to Lake Charles soon & is Lafayette worth the drive from there?? I've never been to either town.
Thanks,
fallguy

What are your interests? Lafayette does have more to offer than Lake Charles, relative to cajun culture and good eating! Lake Charles has great casinos and golf courses, with possible great fishing in the surrounding areas. Lafayette has swamp tours, great food, and great festivals (depending on when you come). Lafayette is only about an hour and 15 minutes East of Lake Charles.

Watch your speed when in Jefferson Davis Parish. Other than that, its a smooth hour or so drive from Lake Charles.

Howdy-
Thank you to all respondents.
My friend John who is assisting me in this most Road-Worthy of Quests has most of his kinfolks in Lake Charles. He has lots of great family memories there but dislikes the town b/c "it's rather rough in terms of crime & there's nothin' to do." He doesn't gamble at all.
The only gambling I do is $5 or less on slots b/c I'm not good at cards. I'm far more a tourist than a gambler, tho.
I'd like to hit Cotten's Famous Hamburgers on Oak Park Blvd. & Pat's of Henderson Seafood on Siebarth Dr., see L'Auberge du Lac Casino Resort & go to Charpentier (sp?) Historic District & see the grand old homes on Shell Beach Dr. & Margaret Place & take lots of photos.
I need Lafayette b/c of a cute brunette I like but we prolly don't have a chance b/c she doesn't talk much who lived there in gradeschool before she moved to the Dallas-area in JH.
I need Baton Rouge so I can see where "Kingfish" got shot & also for their great malt shop Cheeburger Cheeburger...I have about 104 malt flavors left to go of their 110 flavors. I've been to the now-defunct Dallas store several times & the Shreveport store 3 X. I tried to make the Lake Charles store but unfortunately it closed before I could get down there.

Thank you to all respondents.
I found out today that it's going to be at least April or May before I can reach
Lake Charles/Lafayette/Baton Rouge.
Godspeed to the recovery of Cotton's!!
Talk to you soon,

I'm partial to Lake Charles of course because it's much closer to home for me but we take trips to Lafayette and the surrounding areas. There's a lot to explore there. We like natural history museums and such.

Hi All-
John can't make it so I'm going to Lake Charles Sat. 5.10.08 with my buddy Rob.
Saving Lafayette & Baton Rouge b/c I know Rob would say times are too hard & gas too high for such a journey.
Thanks & talk to you later,
fallguy
