Does Louisiana have low Self Esteem?
There really no explaining this thread, you all have read through all the other threads and comments, this is very necessary. I dont understand all this hatred and negativity when it comes to your own state but you still live here. I thought we all had LPB, Seasame Street and Barney all taught us to love ourselves, we sure do pay money to keep LPB on right? (lol, i know better, I just like to joke) So.......tell me.....please tell me...Does Louisiana have low self Esteem?

I think it is the fattest state because we have the best food, not because we're rediculously depressed. That's not to say that the depression and low self-esteem isn't there, though.

I have self esteem, but I believe that it is just different people that have low self esteem, not just Louisiana. Other threads from other staes sound a lot like this one-unless you get a poster asking about the positives of a particular thing.

Texas is the fattest I think now.
I think people are down at times and cannot conceive of what is possible, only what is...
And only will an active citizenry can change things. That said there is so much in this state from natural resources, to history and culture....it ought to be kicking everyone else in the teeth for southern economic dominance.

Louisianians are known for enjoying life. Honestly, I don't think this state ever had a problem with self-esteem until Katrina. That hurt a lot of people, and for others it seems to have opened their eyes.

Never said we had high self esteem. Pay attention.
What I implied was that most people here really could care less about self esteem. I'm not saying that's always a good thing, but not caring about what other people think about us has long been a part of this state's cultural history. And from my perspective, it took Katrina to get a lot more people to really start thinking about where we stand as a state.
So let's see where that takes us, for better or for worse.

Well, I can offer an outsider point of view-for what it's worth. We have been told we need to relocate to LA. so we are coming soon. I was ready for a move, but I fought Lousiana tooth and nail. Why? I really dont' know-just the perception I had. I am a southerner. We love hunting, fishing and outdoors, so you would think we would be loving this. But, there is this image of LA. as being so out of the progressive loop, economically depressed, filthy dirty, and educationally dormant, etc... I am imagining that it's going to just be awful. I hate to sound so negative, but for some reason that is the image that is out there, and I hope I find it to be incorrect. We tried for GA, AL, NC, and TN. We got LA. and it was becuase my husband was the only one in the company that was willing to actually go to LA. everyone else said no way. Now that we are coming, I imagine we will have very little company come visit. It's just not known as a vacation hotspot. People do not think well of it, and I wish that the "Louisianans" would ban together and change that perception that is out there. If that perception is wrong, then change it. Let people know it's a great, proud state that people would love to visit and/or relocate to! Hold your heads up high and make yourself known as a progressive, educational, culturally rich, delicious, clean, thriving state (as well as a sportsman's paradise!) Demand it from your government! That's my 2cents, which does not count for much, I know.

I say that if other places have a problem with Louisiana, it's their own problem. I for one could not care less what some people in Colorado, Massachusetts, California, New Jersey, etc. thinks about me just because I live in Louisiana. If they choose to be that closed minded, then let them. The people whose opinion Louisiana cares about already know that Louisiana can be a pretty cool place, they just don't always like to admit it. Did I forget to mention that we have the some of the lowest property taxes in the nation . I don't want to sound rude or unfriendly, I hope you love living in Louisiana once you get here. I love Louisiana for the place it is. And I think that I speak for many of us here when I say that if we wanted to live in someplace that is OCD about everything like Vermont and California, we would probably move there, not stay and try to make our own state exactly like that.
