Whoo! I just got back from taking my SIL for some minor surgery on the Westbank. We took the Chalmette ferry and boy is Old Man River feeling high and mighty! I haven't seen him this full up in quite a while. I sure hope they don't have to open the spillway that poor lake is just now getting better.

No more rain than usual Blu
We went out to dinner and stopped in Old Arabi to sit on the wall and watch the water a bit. Here are a few pics I took while hanging out. Notice the road in relation to the river (1st pic)and the tree line vs. the river on the opposite bank(last pic). Pic #2 just some guys hanging out and fishing on the levee, #3 shows the trees that usually lay between the river and the levee, and #4 is a view of down town |

Aw thanks for the compliment Blu
It was no problem; more times than not I have the camera in the car even though Hubby fusses about it. I'm currently reading Rising Tide ironically enough and man some of the things I've learned is making the hairs on my arms rise! Way back in middle school I can remember another kid talking about a volcano at the foot of Canal Street. We all thought she was crazy, but she swore that her Grandad had seen it and that he was no liar and became quite upset that we were doubting her word. It ended with her conceeding that it was very small and I didn't push the issue, (I thought her Granddad was looney, but why insult her further?). So HOLY COW what do I read this morning?! "On Esplanade Street 100 yards from the levee the cobblestones suddenly broke apart and a cone of earth shaped like a miniature volcano thrust upward and water began to shoot out of it." John M. Barry, Rising Tide, Touchstone, 1997 p. 163. It's called a sand boil. Ok it wasn't at the end of Canal, but I'm willing to bet this is what that girl was talking about. Pretty cool stuff . |

Ive never read that book but i like that kinda eerie stuff sounds good maybe ill check it out for my self. when i was little girl my daddy told me bout a propane truck in poverty point area louisiana that pulled up over a mud puddle to fill truck with propane . the mud puddle was bubbling the man thought nothing of it may not have even noticed the bubbling but left his truck there went into office and the truck began to sinking in a sink hole that completely swallowed his truck in just a very short time they didnt find the truck.....creepy huh well that kinda thing has been happening in missouri nixa a sinkhole swallowed up a mans house just last year. though im not sure what causes it missouri people dont fool with them sinkholes.....
ill come back to you tomorrow night if i get the chance i dont watch tv and i never like to come inside until dark if i dont have to. |

The book is basically a history of the 1927, flood and the Mississippi levees. I'll remember not to park the car over a bubbling mud puddle after that story
.They're going to open the spillway today; apparently it can't be avoided. |

The winds blowing strong and it finally stopped raining for a little while for awhole day. Dont bother me this place can be awful droughty sometimes and like i told you before i love a good storm. Seems to clean up the world in a way.Ya know, I was wondering if that song Evangeline was about that flood wasnt it?Well i got to go see whats making this big ole dogs go mad barking out here.
Always a pleasure blu. PS Just about 15 deer coming out of the forest to the crown vetch thats all. talk soon blu |

Wow, sand boils up river from NOLA, leaky spots in Algiers, and it sounded like there was some work being done in Braithwaite! I shouldn't have read Rising Tide 'till after spring flooding was over. Somebody tell me I'm being silly and to quit reading disaster books. I should stick to zombi movies
