Default questions about northeastern LA

My bf and I plan on moving to the northeastern part of the state within the next few months and are looking for a reasonably priced place on the water. We've found a few that we are interested in but I was wondering if anyone knows if the Bayou Bonne Idee and the Bayou Macon have much of a problem with flooding? I'm also wanting to know how hard it is to find general office work or accounting work?

lake providence-poorest place in america you should check out that thread and go over the information. i dont know if where you are looking is in this part of the state but if the report is as bad as they say it is i would guess the entire NE Louisiana would probably be the same

I'm not looking in the Lake Providence area, the places I'm looking at are on the Bayou Bonne Idee, the Bayou Macon, and Lake Cheniere. As far as being a poor area, I'm not really too concerned about that.

In general, ALL of Louisiana is extremely poor. But that doesn't mean there are some really nice areas. Monroe and West Monroe, like the rest of Louisiana are poor, but they have nice areas as well. Don't generalize all of northeastern Louisiana when you clearly know nothing about it.

I think "extremely" may be a rather strong word. Louisiana has lots of poor but so do many other states. I see plenty of money spent on recreational items here, that is boats, campers, atvs, jet skis, etc. I don't think its quite as poor as people believe, do you? The poorest thing I know of in this state is the spirit and attitude of the people. The "woe is me", things will never get any better, might as well give up. Lake Providence is almost isolated from everything. The population of the NE river parishes is small and shrinking more as time goes on.

A small population is exactly what I'm looking for! I'm a small town girl transplanted to the city and after 10 years here that sounds like heaven!

Let the true Northeast Louisiana Ambassador talk!!!! If you want to live nice, on water in northeast Louisiana, Look in the Monroe metro area, hands down! We have whole neighborhoods on water. Look for the Garden district in Monroe. The neighborhoods on Bayou Desiard are absolutely amazing, I am always in awe when i see it. Shreveport and Bossier City cant even top this neighborhood on the bayou. But......unfortunately, its so good, there hard to come by. But if you see one and you can afford it, you definitely need to get it!!!! Its paradise over there!!!!

I also may be moving to Monroe LA and am surprised by the lack of nice houses under $300,000! If it is such a "poor" area, why is housing sooo expensive?
