Gonzales to Garyville
Hi, we're going to be moving soon, and I was wondering what the consensus was for a place between Gonzales and Garyville. Safe and non-slummy are requirements, of course, I'd also like the housing to be fairly new. I've heard nothing but horror stories about LA public schools, are these true? What are the options for a non-religious private school? Thanks.

Gonzales
Now, are you moving from Gonzales TO Garyville? (never heard of Garyville), but, let me ask you...... I moved away from Gonzales at the age of fifteen, when the small community on Lynn avenue, behind Plantation fried Chicken (my parents best friends were the owners) it was so new, there was a forest behind us, new development and houses, etc., had curfew, clean streets, no crime, quaint, etc. THAT was in 1972.
NOW, I am living in AZ, having lived all over NA and SA, just got back from Lexington KY, loved it, reminded me of LA - soooo -
WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS OF GONZALES NOW AFTER KATRINA?
Why are you moving from Gonazales? Your info would really help me decide where to move next - it's only.... me. whahh - but good in a way - new beginnings, but for a woman, I gotta be cautious. Thx

I've actually never lived in LA. I'm a KY girl (lived in Lexington, KY for 7 years) who now lives in Charleston, SC. We are looking at housing in the areas between Gonzales and Garyville (toward LaPlace, where all the refineries are). My husband will be working in G'ville and my parents live in the Gonzales/Burnside area in Pelican Point. Just trying to decide if there's somewhere better than Pelican Point, because we like that area pretty well. Thanks.

I have been told by a few people who live in Pelican Point that you can smell the chemicals around the area. I was told to check out the areas in Gonzales on the opposite side of the mall. I've been looking in and around Gonzales for at least a year. Still can't make a decision just yet, the number of properties on the market concerns me, so I've decide to take a wait and see approach before putting my house on the market to relocate there.

St. James Parish is Nice, Or some areas of Garyville, You have to watch where you go there, You dont want to venture out into the wrong parts there. St. james Parish is very Nice though, esp, Paulina, Hester area, Public school is goof there, I have lived in St. james all my life and Love it, I never want to live anywhere else. Gramercy is a nice city too but i hear the school there isnt too great. Paulina, Gramercy area is about 10-15 minutes from Garyville at the most. and about 25 minutes from Pelican Point. Hope this helps you!
