Yah well in Montana you just have to watch out for all the registered and non-registered sexual offenders that's all. And Maine and Mass? Just the common old everyday run-of-the-mill Devil Worshipper-no problem right?
And the two Dakotas, well there's a movie about what goes on there in those parts- if'n you get my drift (snow drift that is-sorry just had to put in some comic relief so you won't get too offended by my response!)

I have to disagree with the statement go downtown only if you have to. Have you been downtown BR lately? There is a ton of places to eat and drink and about 50 festivals a year down there. I feel very safe there day r night. There is also a 650 million dollar condo project in the works along with lots of new restaurants and entertainment palces. Downtown is great! I also see that a lot of the undesirables have gone back to New Orleans or elsewhere, not nearly as many as a year ago.

New Orleans isn't too bad for most people unless one happens to be young, black, male and involved with sketchy people. There is definitely a crisis here with young black men being murdered...but if one isn't an idiot I do not feel unsafe here.
And if I had to live in the suburbs I'd just leave the state.

Hello All,
I live in Louisiana and have for my entire life. All people are a product of their raising to some degree. There are places know for violence more then others here but, to say that one shouldnt move here because of it is crazy . Louisiana offers some of the best schooling there is . We offer a diverse lifestyle. We have many of mixed cultures here as well. Granted , if you listen to everything tom and joe have to say ofcourse your gonna only hear the negitive about us here in Louisiana. I have to say we are rich people in culture and community , hospitiality as well. We have natural attractions and not to mention the shopping. Resturants are on ever cornor from French to Mexican to Itialian to Cajun we dont lack difference in food none. So come down take a trip and visit one of our historical villiages you will be glad you did and found out for your self that louisiana and its people arent just like everyone else.

I disagree strongly with this statement. LA is always at the bottom when it comes to public schools. Colleges don't do that much better, although there are a few exceptions.

Yeah, I agree that public schools pretty much stink in Louisiana, for the most part. But the universities really aren't that bad and have respected speciality programs. Louisiana would do well to have a true and effective junior college system like some other states.

Now there are some good schools here,,,,
Ruston, Ouachita district, Bossier parish (Plain Dealing needs help), East Shreveport just to name a few. Zachary is good in EBR, and I imagine there are others. I think that certain large districts have lowered the overall test scores and etc. Some of these are notorious for being at the bottom as well as some poor rural parishes. Both areas suffer from a shrinking tax base as well as educating the lowest income and least prepared to spend a day in the classroom. It's indeed sad.

I've lived in Mandeville for 1.5 years and have found it to be very nice here. In fact, the people are in general more likely to say hi to strangers than they were in Michigan. I feel safe in my neighborhood. There are places I see when I'm traveling throughout the state that I am more careful but that's no different than any other state.
