Default Help! Need info about Roseland, Springfield, and Hammond, LA areas.

Please help! Possible move to Louisiana (work near Roseland, LA). I was told to consider Springfield or Hammond areas. Where are the best places to live? How far is the commmute? How is the crime and education in the area? What is the cost of housing and insurance? What can I expect living in LA? Any information would be helpful and greatly appreciated.

hi,
i grew up in amite & live around springfield now. i know the areas around here very well.there are subdivisions going up everywhere.springfield or hammond would give you a commute of 45 minutes or more depending on hrs of day, if u are near interstate, etc.
do you want to live in the country, a small town or a moderately larger town.do you have children where you would want to consider what school they would go to, or would you want to consider private schools.
send me a little more of this kind of info & i'm sure i can give u some good suggestions on where to start. also wil you want to buy or rent a place to live, & how large. i'm not into real estate but know the area well so i should be able to help save you alot of money and i'm more than hapy to help. i am a retired(disabled) lpn, so i don't work. good luck & im sure you will be well received & welcomed into any community you decide on.

While I don't have children of school age, I do believe that the
better school systems seem to have better living environments.
I do have pets however. How is the shopping? Not that I shop
a lot, but one still needs to have availability. How is the
friendliness factor? What about entertainment? Thanks.

most people around here are very nice & helpful. Roseland would be a quiet area with nothing around. Amite has a theater & a walmart LOL. the college is in hammond, which has bad areas as well as nice subdivisions.I also heard about a bad area someplace in amite. i don't go there much anymore.there are 2 other little towns in between, Tickfaw & natalbany. both quiet, nothing but convenience stores. ponchatoula is a fairly nice small town, no major stores. it's about 20 miles between amite & hammond. roelant is 3 miles from amite. there are interstate highways (55&12) that run through all of these small towns. hammond has decent shopping & is growing everyday. Covington & mandeville have good shopping. Hammond is about 45 miles from new orleans or baton rouge. traffic is not too bad, depends on time of day & area. people in st. tammany parish are a little snooty but i guess u can find that anywhere. I worked at the hospital there and was treated very nicely, but after i quit nobody seem to know me anymore. I worked there for 5 yrs. but like i said, we're all pretty typical southern and most people are very nice & will do anything they can to help out. I hope this helps you. Good luck with your move & welcome to our area.
